the law states only that an animal shelter needs to hold a domesticated pet for 3 days. as the number of cats coming in is usually high, cats that come in demonstrating feral behaviors, or cannot be touched because of fear, are put on that legal shorter time period, where as nice cats, and all dogs are help for a minimum of a week not including weekends or holidays. This is how many shelters are run, not just Long Beach. And if your cat were indoors, he would have never been hit and killed in the first place. And with all the cruelty, aggressive, sick, injured animal calls they are getting him, do you really think a dead animal will be a top priority. And you never mentioned if your cat was microchipped. Was he? if not, how are they suppose to know to call you? Or maybe your cat happened to actually be microchipped, maybe he was too badly damaged to get a chip reading? And a photo of your dead animal if just a nicety they provide. No other shelter does it that I know of. You should be thanking them for doing the tough job that they have to do when these hard economic times are causing such a budget crunch that they aren't even at their full staffing.

not our problem, twit. they are one in the same in the public eye. if they don't want to be seen as a joint venture then they need to actually get out there and speak to people, duh!!!! or seperate their name since the SPCA sucks so hard. they are illegal in most of their dealing with animals, if long beach animal control is so wonderful, they need to fight for a seperate entity to control the horrors of the SPCA.

They are disgusting, i have witnessed them, they truly could care less for the animals, at least in the last year i have been there. You can feel the miserable energy, they say one thing about animals and then they don't have any follow thru. Example. My beautiful cat got hit on saturday night, a neighbor found him and called animal control at 7 a.m. it took them 24 hours to respond to his dead body. Plus they never even showed it as a pick up, a call or took pictures of him as we endlessly continued to look for our beautiful black cat that whole week. We loooked through books, asked for photos for the full 7 days he went missing. They had already picked him up that sunday, here it is next saturday and they had no record of ever picking him up, no photo, no phone call. I was devastated. they put cats to sleep after only four days, barely giving an owner any time to find their baby, one i found they put to sleep after three days and he was in perfect condition and not feral, he was on hold to see if the owner would figure out where he was, he wasn't feral and not even given the chance for adoption.......this place is wicked crooked and i hope they close it down as well as other shelters that pretty themslves up to the public to make a buck. turth is, they will bitch at you about animal cruelty, you aren't giveing your dog enough water, blah, blah, yet they hardly follow up all the calls, treat dead animals like shit and put animals to sleep way before the legal time allowed to give an owner time to get it back, plus they missed the ball completely on our cat. shitheads, i hope you lose funding and you close down.

They are a bunch of laypeople who should be replaced.

Every reported indicent that does not leave physical marks on a pet is rules "unfounded". They really seem to know nothing about abuse, they just pretend they do.

Are you under the impression that all is hunky dory at “The Village”? Well, there are several problems between the two partners and the relationship appears to be on the rocks. Animal Services has decided to deny SpcaLA access to their kennel cards, which have important information like behavioral issues and medical history. The main reason that Animal Services is preventing the SpcaLA from viewing this information is because they still continue subjecting the animals to illegal and immoral things. Animal Services has a history of hiding information in the past.
They always say, “You can’t teach and old dog, new tricks”.

The Pitchford facility on Spring street is a joint venture by LBAC and the SPCA. It is the SPCA who determines which animals are adoptable and which are not, not the LBAC. LBAC still does it's best to adopt out those animals that the SPCA rejects, but the initial determination lies with them. Please get your facts straight.

No one thinks that this piece is suspect when the individual writing the article is unwilling or unable to give more specific references to the nebulous 'management' to which he keeps referring? Who said 'use your head' then chastised for taking initiative? Who specifically was it who "enjoyed controlling everything/everyone with fear," or "hassled" the writer when OT slips were signed, or questioned how long a call took at the end of the day, or denied the opportunities to come in early to finish paperwork (and what reason was given, if any?), or "picked apart with a fine-toothed comb" all the work he did and criticized him weekly?

When one makes a claim against an entity like 'management,' their claims tend to be lauded by others who can relate to the same kind of treatment in their own lives. It's not uncommon for line employees to feel mistreated by 'management,' so there are many who can understand the frustration illustrated in this article. However, we mustn't forget that there is no such person as 'management.' Individuals allegedly incurred these issues against Mr. Macy - who were they? He names no one. This does not inspire confidence and credibility to the story presented here.

This is not unique to Long Beach Animal Control. These issues and complaints are identical to what is seen at Orange County Animal Control. Some of the problems are rooted at the poor leadership and the manner in which promotions are enlisted that keep the leadership weak, especially when based on favoritism versus merit.

Great when someone speaks up, but as usual and as you very well now onece they put this certain people in Management they think they rule the world and everyone else can kiss there ass if they don't like what they say. Most of them got to management by who they know not what they know. It's that way at way to many places sad but true.
Move on just like millions have to do because unions and management work side by side one pays the other off.

Well folks, seeing as we can all count April ,May hath September, Why is the Quigleydyte still at her temporary job?Where is the investigation, Where is the district weekly hiding from us? Some folks say changes are in place at Long Beach animal control but as long as you have troclodytes like Quigley running the show change is impossible.

Well we have waited since April, so how long is Lt Quigley going to keep that temp. position? at this rate since april x how many pets are killed each day by this ruthless sociopath disguised as a animal control officer..seems to us her hands must be soaked in cat blood by this time.
