Well, DWR, I held a seance and it turns out the spirit of the piece was BOTH tongue-in-cheek and sincere. We were sitting at our Friday meeting and of course the talk was of Michael Jackson, and at some point just about everybody told how they learned he had died. So I collected the little stories and put them on line, thinking maybe others might want to tell their little tales---or make fun of us for telling ours. Done and done!

Spin Sonny Clark? You are OLD. Like other jazz "legends", Sonny Clark bit the big one from heroin overdose. Obviously, SC had something similarly in common with MJ.

I was never a fan of MJ (to me he was the "King of Pedaphilia") but I think this "Where Were You......" piece was meant to be tongue-in-cheek so lighten-up people.

If I'm incorrect about the spirit of the piece, feel free to correct me Theo, Ellen, Dave, Heather.

Just please be nice about it.....

Better yet, I'm gonna go spin some Sonny Clark. He was dead at 34 when MJ was about 3 and is the only musician I can think of who NEVER played on a date that was less than SUPERB--every single time out the session was magic . . .

But to answer the question--I was dressing a set at a feabag hotel in Hollywood for the film I am currently working on

I was in the Blood Donor Center at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center (hospital).
By the way, LBMMC's Donor Center is just the greatest place in the whole darned world to donate blood. They really and truly make you feel sooooooo good for having donated. They are always running nip-and-tuck on having enough blood. Whether you were a MJ fan or not, won't you please consider donating a pint some time real soon? THANKS!

I was at work and a co-worker sent me an email asking me if I'd heard he was in hospital...by the time I checked he was R.I.P. I must say, the dude went crazy, but I will always remember him for two things: 1) The day after he moonwalked on that Motown 50th show that is ALL every kid at school could talk about and 2) I had a cousin who had cancer and died at the age of 10. Before he did, though, MJ fulfilled his wish and sent him a jacket, glove, autographed picture and all sorts of other stuff. For all the suffering he went through, I still remember how much he beamed the day he received that package, which was shortly before his death.
