  • I also find it ironic that adopted sister city, Long Beach Mississippi, thanked City Council last night for helping to refurbish their LIBRARY after being devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
  • Theo, I'm so glad you picked up on Sanchez's remarks. They were truly stirring, and I only wish she could be home for the city's September 2nd library-related budget meeting (I actually wish she were home for good!).
  • Theo, thank you for your ongoing coverage of this issue. The Long Beach Business Journal just released its issue with all the city salaries above $100k. Pat West? $235k. Chief Batts? $219k. ED of the Harbor? Yep, the top paid employee at $270k. And this is just the cash compensation. They get hugely generous benefit and pension plans. If you look at total compensation, we've given away the store at the expense of those who need it the most. It's a travesty and, as LB citizens, we should be embarrassed of ourselves.
