I'm not Mormon, but I'd like to correct you. There is no Mormon temple in Long Beach; you might be referring to the meeting house. The local temples are larger, perform ceremonies that the meeting halls do not, and are located (locally) in LA, Newport Beach and La Jolla (SD).
And this may not be the place for a huge debate, but the Mormons are being incorrectly blamed for the passage of this bill. Yes, they gave money (though i also want to point out that no on 8 received more money than yes on 8 did) but as a religious group do not represent the majority of people who ACTUALLY VOTED for this proposition to pass.
According to many polls, 7 out of 10 African Americans and over half of all Latinos here in California voted Yes on 8. If no on 8 supporters still feel the need to pass blame (and inadvertently...hate) then maybe they should go to their local Baptist/Catholic churches and protest in front of them...
I voted NO and felt bad about it passing until I saw the pity parties/protests show up. Please stop the blame. 60% voted no on prop 22 in 2000, it was hastily repealed this year, it was put to vote (again) and the people of California spoke (again) in favor of it. Please stop the blame and respect the votes of the majority of Californians who voted yes.
