I was just watching Fox news live. It really makes me so happy that Matthew Snyders father was awarded 11m dollars. From that crazy ole church. These people belong in a life long asylum where every and all day they must listen to the correct word of God. Because it is very clear to any one out side of there circle. That they are mislead, confused, and down right right ignorant and stupid. I would really like to know how many of them have an education. They all obviously had some kind of traumatic experiences in life can not deal it. So take it out on the american troops and there families. I guess by hating others it makes them like themselves a easier. they are all losers and should never be able to speak again. By no means am I saying kill them or even wish death to them or there families. Iwas thinking more like crazy glue.[haha]

On the other hand, it's possible that, however offensive the church's speech, this won't hold up: first, it's clearly political speech; second, the speakers represent a church. We may not like the speaker, and we certainly don't like their speech, but this is America. Or at least it used to be. What I'd like to see: Thinking of the moveon campaign re Gen. David Petraeus (sp?), where are the Democratic activists demanding that Republicans distance themselves from Christians like these?

Will, I agree about political speech, but a resolution simply denouncing Westboro's behavior would be too toothless. Even the most raging homophobes in Congress could justify voting for it, because they would be "protecting the (dead) troops". Now, a resolution denouncing all anti-gay bigotry that tries to justify itself through religious doctrine-- that would be interesting. Unfortunately, the Democratic leadership wouldn't introduce such a resolution, even if Jesus offered to do TV commercials supporting it.

Don't get me wrong: the decision should be overturned, without question. At least that's my opinion. It's a free speech issue, pure and simple. Still, I'm going to enjoy every second of their difficulties, and do a little happy dance for every dollar that they lose to their lawyers.

I love gay people. Anyone who denounces them speaks for my arch enemy lucifer. Being that I'm omnicient and all knowing your readers should know that the entire male population of the Westboro Baptist Church was cast in a very mediocre production of Rogers and Hamersteins South Pacific. Interesting.

You guys, you guys! Freedom of speech is great (we're FOR it), and that's why the government can't throw anyone in jail for exercising it. But you CAN sue for intentional infliction of emotional distress, and for invasion of privacy. Which they clearly were doing.
