    Dave,

    Remember in the movie, "Philadelphia", when Denzel Washington's attorney character repeatedly asked witnesses to have items explained to him as if he were a six-year old? Well, how can Bonnie make an assertion, that she immediately returned the campaign contribution, when it sat in her coffers for more than six months?

    When Bonnie told me that I believe she meant that the contribution from Joe Prevratil/Leisure Horizons was returned immediately after the City Council voted to approve filing the suit against Prevratil. That's the way I heard it, anyway.

    Thanks for reporting on stories like this. We could use a lot more of this journalism as our city councilmembers are quite well fed by local contributors. Need a code variance? Just make a donation. Pesky anti-crony regulations? Make a donation! Want to build out onto public beach land? Oh, wait, they do that themselves (right, Mr. Colonna?)

    CORRECTION. I just got off the phone with my attorney. I have been advised that I should not have said, ''Bonnie is liar.'' I should have said, Bonnie is a ''allegedly'' a liar. Everybody is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    Either/or, I believe she had knowledge of the many issues pertaining to Prevratil's business dealings at the Queen Mary. How do I know this? Well, I provided her with much of the information.

    Joe's spell over City Hall goes back many years to his days with the port and his hiring to oversee the Convention Center expansion. The constant official calls on Prevratil for his services conjures up comparisons between LB and "Hooterville," the fictional whistle stop on the TV show "Green Acres." In tiny "Hooterville," the crafty and corrupt "Mr. Haney" was always the man of the hour. For LB. population 400K-plus, there's no substitute for hiring and admiring Joe. Here's betting he turns up, in full-diving gear, at the aquarium for his next gig.

    Joe Prevratil is almost correct in calling the city's suit against him "vindictive." The proper term however, is "vindicate." As in vindication of all of us that constantly reported to City Hall just what good 'ol Joe was really up to at the Queen Mary, and were constantly ignored and poo poo'd as crackpots and troublemakers. And if anyone out there thinks ol' Joe's copious twisted tenticles have completely let loose of the old rusty gal, or that she's been cleansed of his cronies, they're in for a rude awakening!
