The District Weekly: CITY ENDS ELECTRONIC BILLBOARD TALKS–FOR NOW

  • RKJ · 1 year ago
Thank you Pat West for saving our city from this bad idea. Thank you for being one of the first city leaders to take a stance that LBch is not going to settle any longer. So very refreshing to know that we won't have to explain away further LBch blight

Perhaps there should be an expounded discussion as to why Long Beach was pursuing this brand of revenue. Maybe this will get elected city leaders to openly talk about something that has continuously been avoided:THE BUDGET!

Visual blight is going to be the topic of everyone on the south-east side of Long Beach. Right now there are cars banner ads up and down 2nd street advertising a boat race.

Last week 2nd Street Parking Commission approved two humongous bill board structures to be placed one near the fire station heading west and one in the Belmont Shore residential area on Ocean/Livingston (state scenic corridor). The one on Ocean is outside of the Commissions authority but Lorbeer claimed in the meeting he already has council OK (even before Planning process). So much for public process and open meetings.

Last week the Commission voted to approve signs... before they would allow public comment on the presentation showing the final design and location. Requires all sorts of code variances which were not discussed. Think of large red traffic offramp signs with cheap banners strung up everyday of the year. I'm not exaggerating. No control on who can hang a sign except for a special events permit. City clerk has a meeting tape.
