The District Weekly: CASTING CALL: KITCHEN NIGHTMARES

OMG. I swear I've been talking about this nonstop for the last 6 months, mainly because I adore the owner..
Two Umbrellas Cafe on Broadway in Long Beach!! If you've never been there, it's a small Pop and Pop (gay owned) breakfast and lunch diner. The owner has recently battled cancer, and the place has gone down hill since he got sick.
I remember when the food used to be great!! I loved having my hangover breakfast there every weekend. Now, it's bland and the service is substandard. The only one with passion is Tom, the owner, but I think it's about to fizzle. This place needs help, or I'm afraid it's going to close down really really soon!

Two Umbrellas is the perfect candidate for "Kitchen Nightmares". The owner is the only person in the whole building who really cares for the success of his business, and not for himself, but because he cares about his employees and would hate to see any of them jobless in this economy. The menu is long, boring, and poorly executed. The waitstaff is uninterested and lazy. The dining room is a design disaster.
Two Umbrellas has an amazing history, had been operating for 15 years, has had a significant positive impact on the community. The entire neighborhood would benefit from Two Umbrellas participation on this show. Gordon!!! They need you!!!

i also agree that two umbrellas could use this help. i'm sure that any kind of makeover for this place would brighten up the customers, waitstaff, and heck the whole neighborhood! they have been experimenting with night time food service (the restaurant is on a street with a lot of bars) with not much success. it would be really nice if they could get that in order so the drunkies don't have to go driving around looking for food! please help the two umbrellas!!!

As a forner dishwasher at the 2U, I would love to see this place get the proper attention it deserves. The people I worked with made the task of burning my hands and stinking up my clothes much more enjoyable than it would have been at any other restaurant. I was a vegetarian when I worked there and used to enjoy the breakfast menu. I've since gone vegan so I can't partake in the peanut butter and banana contraptions, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Two Umbrellas.

    Good luck!
