Where was the supervisor while all this was going on? Was he outside the door watching things unfold? Did they try to help with the dog when they saw it in trouble.

More abuse and neglect at The Long Beach Animal Shelter

The department thinks Kristina Vet tech sent out her report and that guy Victor will probably been fired for the incident. The department now can say, "We reprimanded this employee" The person responsible is Wesley Moore. He hired Sgt (SP), who watched the dog being mishandled and did nothing. We are so disgusted. I think the city council would love to know that the shelter animals are without medical care with the absence of the vet techs, who are both gone. Here is another animal abuse/neglect story. Another animal suffered neglect and abuse in the euthanasia area. A cat was brought in 3/27/08 and "apparently" euthanized by Lt.Quig late afternoon. The Cat was said to be "suffering" by MQ, who is not a Veterinarian. She left the cat in the carrier with the impound card on top of the carrier. The card stated she killed this cat with some type of put to sleep medicine. The cat was found alive the next morning in the same carrier in the euthanasia area ( 6-7am) 4 different employees had seen the cat and the card on top of the carrier and told other employees about it. The cat was still alive and starving in the morning. It had a severe case of mange. The cat had suffered all night long with no food or water and a "irremediable" medical condition. The impound card is missing now. I wonder what happened to it. Poor cat. Maybe the cat was not suffering at all like the card said. Who is she to decide that. Is she a Veterinarian? No ? Why are animals put to death because she thinks they are sick or injured? She should be charged with animal cruelty. Why are employees at fault for cruelty and supervisors can get away with it. 4 + people seen this cat in this situation but do not want to speak up because they will be punished. Who actually euthanized this cat that morning after it was found? Wesley Moore? Did He do it and cover it up like everything else? I would not be surprised. Shame on you Wesley Moore!!! Ignore this issue like everything else. Please Mr. Report sender guy. Send this to your contacts. You really have some good ones! Lets see if they fire the person who impounded this cat to blame someone.

Disappointed and afraid of punishment at the Long Beach Animal Shelter
  • The Price is wrong · 1 year ago
Ummm... I think the greater problem is the fact that they Kill !!!! animals each week !!!!! . Spend the energy on saving the rest in the cages who and the ones who are on death row. Or on the ghetto-ass people who get dogs and can't even take care of there own children, let alone the dogs. ( the pit was most likely one )

Yes a mistake was made, and he should be punished but don't piss on the shelter people, theses guys are dealing with stupid humans an they are doing a great job cleaning up after them.

Where the F is Bob Barker when you kneed him!!!!
  • Desiree · 1 year ago
Hey " The Price is Wrong" , the stupid humans work for the city of Long Beach and SPCALA. Animals cannot get out of the Shelter unless SPCA takes them. The rest die because of a stupid contract between SPCA/Long Beach. Blame the SPCA for all the deaths then. Try to go against the SPCA. No one will touch it.
  • Dribble · 1 year ago
As long as humans keep making more unwanted animals, there will alwasy be an issue as to what to do with them. The point is there is a right and humane way to do this and there is a wrong way. Sounds like heads need to roll as we residents of Long Beach have a responsibility for our population of animals and the persons whom we employ. Time to change hands. There is no accountability and far too much coverup, time to revamp Animal Control and whomever is responsible for putting those people in charge. They had blatant disregard for the laws regarding a veterinarian and knowingly did nothing. I hate to think this dog suffered in vain if nothing is done but it seems to have been the vehicle which these other issues rode in on. I think we should pay a little visit to this "village" and see just how many idiots run (or don't run) the place. Sure the Spca is there, but it's not their fault. Granted the Long Beach Spca is run by ammatures that sweep even more under the carpet, overall in the larger piture they do good things. Management on both sides do work together to do dammage cotrol and cover each others butts, but I don't think they are aware of that at a higher level of the Spca. Lets get a group together that they can not ignore and make them take notice. We will not stand by, we are going to dig into every crevice possible, even if it feels a little too personal.
  • The Price is wrong · 1 year ago
Desiree, forget the spca just create a task force like the " Guardian Angels " and walk around the neighborhood and stop the influx of animals going to the spca. You can take action yourself of blame others.

How about another Noah's Arc ? oops
  • Who is Animal Lover? Rock On! · 1 year ago
"The Price is Wrong" don't forget that the SPCA walks around the shelter everyday and watchsLBAC neglect the shelter animals. You should of took action last year when the shelter cats were being cooked well done in their stainless steel cages. Blaming others is taking action.
  • Concerned · 1 year ago
How come the animal shelter cannot adopt out animals? Scpa should let Long Beach Shelter adopt animals. I don't understand why the animals have to die just because Scpa can't take them. Where are all the rescue groups? Isn't there some kind of law or something protecting these animals from being put to sleep? Someone should look into that. No doggy or kitty should have to die because of a stupid contract. I think that it is illegal to put adoptable animals to sleep. Is someone looking into this?

Where was Tonya Elliott, Senior Animal Control Officer during all of this? Isn't she management? What was her schedule for that day? Who's butt did you have your head burrowed in? How come nobody is talking about the rescue Chow she killed?
  • Scrabble · 1 year ago
I failed to mention that she submitted her resignation the same week. She ran with her tail between her legs. She knew what was going to happen to her by upper management considering her past disciplne but no one is talking about that.
  • Exposing the Truth in Honor of · 1 year ago
"Concerned" -- what happened to the rescues? Hmmm -- let's see, do you read the papers? Michelle Quigley has been on a crusade to drive numerous good rescues out of Long Beach. Michelle Quigley HATES rescues (unless it's Shirley at the city's own 501C-3...how the hell does that work by the way? They have a stellar adoption record -- something 34 animals in one year!! Whoo hooo! FOLBA really gets the job done!)

After working closely with groups like Noah's Ark for years, she turned on them and then tried to kill all the animals she took saying they were on death's door when they were seized. Thanks to a restraining order, most of them were allowed to avoid Quigley's killing needle and LBAC was pressured by the media exposure to do the right thing and find the animals homes. However, lots of them went missing and remain unaccounted for. Christine Culhno botched her testimony during the trial of Alex Kirkland and Gloria Ramos, and Lt. Elliott outright lied on the stand. But that wasn't a problem, Judge Jesse Rodriguez was already in on the deal so he let her perjure herself without any ramifications. Long Beach is one of the most corrupt cesspools in California!

Justin Rudd keeps trying to have it declared the most dog-friendly city (of course he wants to run for office) but Quigley's empire has one of the highest kill rates in Southern California. Thousands of animals pay the highest price for Quigley's maniacal need to kill.

While we're at it -- since LBAC isn't making money on adoptions because they barely do any, anyone know how they managed to make $70,000 two years ago? It's on the public documents...if you can get a copy...but the source of the revenue is mysteriously blank. Where is that profit coming from???? D & D Rendering most probably....so you can feed those dead dogs and cats back to your own pets! Or medical testing labs so they can be tortured in the name of safe cosmetics.

Madeline and her SPCALA crew are just as bad. First the citizens of Long Beach grant the land for Pitchford Village and now the SPCA CHARGES THE TAXPAYERS in the form of rent to LBAC for their space at Pitchford. PD Pitchford is none too happy that his name is on the place -- he knows what a hypocrite Madeline her team are! Also -- if the SPCA workers just can't be bothered to get an animal a home after 6 months, they are quietly dropped off at the Carson shelter who routinely violates the Hayden Act and kills animals in 3 days. But you probably hadn't heard about that. In cases like Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts, once the news cameras went home and SPCALA knew no one was looking, all those animals they were "helping" were transported to Carson and killed.

Oh -- and for all of you out there who lost an animal and were told by Quigley that your pet was found mortally injured or dead....yeah, that's a lie. Quigley continually pressured contract vets to put animals to sleep that she didn't like and routinely violated the Hayden Act herself which says that animals must be made comfortable and owners must be given 5 days to find their pet. Dr. Saleh knows the truth, but he's been threatened in person by Elliott to keep him from talking. Maybe now he'll be brave enough.

Here's an interesting case: A 6 month old chihuahua had been found with a broken leg. Quigley told a vet to kill it. The vet knew this wasn't necessary and found a rescue to take the dog and they even raised the money for it's surgery. During the surgery, Quigley happened to stop by the vet's office, realized that this was the dog she wanted dead and made the vet euthanize the puppy on the spot. Then she took the body with her. Can't have any of that incriminating evidence laying around.

Aren't you all glad you're paying for Lt. Michelle Quigley to run your animal care and control department? Now she's going to put in for a stress/disability claim so you all can continue paying her salary while she does less REAL work than she does now on your dime. You might want to work some overtime hours, you're going to be paying for Quigley with your tax dollars for a long, long time.

    Way to go Long Beach!

You can requst to hear the LB Fire dispatch call the day of the raid where Tonya Elliott lied and did WHATEVER she could not to have to get off her butt to respond to the Noah's Arck call. And how is fresh feces smell "sweet". What an idiot, she was supervising the kennels at the time that's why she didn't want to respond she knew it would mean work for her. That would take away from her blogging and interenet surffing. She stayed around for oh a month then went off work for three months leaving the rest of the staff to do her real job. The animals where actually in more harm with her there anyway, so kuddos to the staff that took the challenge and did a great job despite her continuous efforts to sabotauge LBAC.

Rest assured, Fred Bergendorff, now departed and former host of The Pet Place Television Show is still watching over all the animals. And someday all the perpetrators of crimes against animals will have to look Fred in the face and answer the question: "Did you or did you not hurt my animals?"

First I would like to say God bless Ms. Reger for bringing this horror to the public's attention. If there are still any Press Telegram readers out there, you will note the absence of any commentary in that useless rag. It's high time someone in the press stood up to the powers-that-be in Long Beach and printed the truth about what really goes on at the Long Beach "shelter" Kudos to Heather Reger for publishing this! LBAC has a history of mistreatment of and cruelty to animals; disregard of the Hayden Act; failure to comply with their own policies; cover-ups, deceipt, and corruption. How many more cases are there like this one? I'm sure it is not an isolated incident--they just got caught this time. Ms. Reger, please keep up the fabulous job you are doing--the voiceless ones at the shelter would thank you if they could.

Very good stuff here. The District Weekly did a great job! I am shocked that this tragedy has not made the local news. Why is this story in a local paper and not in a national publication? This is big news. I think the public has the right to know if the animal that they have adopted from the pound has been neglected and abused. If this happened to a child while in CPS, every TV station in the world would jump on it. I don't get it
  • Former Kennel Person · 1 year ago
I left this shelter because I was treated very poorly by management. I worked extra hard to care for the animals and got paid very little. That part didn't bother me because I liked working with the animals. We had so many cats from that raid and we didn't have enough people to take care of them. When the kennel workers would clean the cats, they had to hurry because there were so many. The cats were always grabbed by the back of the neck to clean the cages. They got so scared and would run to the back of the cage after a few months. The only attention they got was someone grabbing them by the neck and putting them in a carrier. It was so sad and I couldn't deal with it anymore. Also, most of the supervisors would make me really embarrased every time I walked into the office area. They would page me or call and hunt me down just to yell at me because it was taking too long to clean the animals. I just wanted to do a good job. I didn't have any experience and they hired me. I didn't have any training and was just learning. I don't know why those people had to be so mean. I don't think they wanted a person who was there for the animals. They wanted someone who worked fast and they didn't care how the animals were treated as long as the cleaning was done. They are not animal people. They are selfish. Poor animals! I feel better knowing that there might be a change. Maybe I will go back someday. I make more money working at fast food. They treat me better at least.

Thank god there's finally an alternative for the fluffy tripe that passes for news at the Press Telegram on this issue. Good reporting job.

All shelters have problems... but I'm not sure I've ever seen one that focuses so much on presenting a pretty picture to the public and so little on the animals. Time to clean house.

WOW!! I can't believe these disgruntled employees are airing all the dirty laundry on Craigslist. These are lazy, incompetent employees that had one foot out the door from day one. True, if management had more balls, he should've fired (Pill popping)Lt. long time ago to prevent all this s#$#t from hitting the fan. Too late its out in the public now. Unfortanatly you have some good people that really do care about animals working at LBAC and of course they will also be lumped in with the incompetant ones. Shame on you!! Pill popping, drunk ex Lt.Elliot Shame on you!!.

When a human being is savagely murdered, the act is never, ever referred to as "an unfortunate incident" Mr. Johnson's description of this crime is just another example of LBAC's disdain for the animals in their "care". The employee who brutally abused this dog should be charged with felony animal cruelty...but don't bet the farm this will ever happen. It will be swept under the rug like all their other crimes.

Thank you Mario, you are so right about about this shelter. They do not comply with the Hayden Act. They are all the things you say they are. It is a corrupt, horrible shelter. Ms. Reger really helped the animals by writing this story. You are wrong on just a few little things. This is not going to be swept under the rug, you can rest assure. Don't blame the employee who handled this dog, that is the way he was probably taught. Rescues are not allowed to take animals from this shelter. Hayden Act is not inforced in Long Beach

Lets not forget that a "supervisor" stood there watching this happen, If the employee was not trained nor corrected at that time, then it is on their supervisors. I sounds like the employee was set up to fail and look bad. Why didn't anyone help? They were there. Why wasn't a qualified person asked to tranqualize the animal in the cage first, that is not unheard of, they have those guns. I think there was failure to inform, assist and correct. Someone knew that the dog was unruly. What happened to the animal was horrific but has anyone considered the safety of the humans involved as well. The risk of injury or mauling, slipping in all that blood, the untrained assistants and those observing it all. Why are employees intentionally put at risk? No wonder there is such a turnover. Emotionally, physically, who helps the employees? Who trains the employees or makes those decisions because that duty needs to be retracted from those involved. It's just so ironic that they are employees of the "Health" Department. I would like to talk to a couple of these employees, past and present. That would be a good Idea for the reporters, ask them directly. Maybe they should have a deposition where they would have to tell the truth. Sounds like someone took the fall and others are being protected, I'd like to hear more, keep it comming.

I believe there was mistreatment of employees really trying to do there best that appears 0bvious. When you have a case of territorism, lack of ability and straight hate for another a individual or in this case it appears to be hate for many individuals, how would any company successfully provide service. It all appears to be people that have no desire to do the job at hand or just the job they have been given by the director. It's easy to complain and air dirty laundry when more than likely you are at fault. If you read the report above and on craigslist you can see that the individuals are actually spending too much time in other person's buiness and making claims that have no bearing or proof, that's why there are no names on anything. At least Ms. Culhno had the balls to report what she felt was a horrible incident I too would be scared to loose my license it's her lively hood. She worked hard to get it and I'm sure doesn't want to loose it. With all these upset, low life former and current employees I would run scard too because it's obvious someone is unhappy with a big mouth. Where was her supervisor or a supervisor that day? . The report by Ms. Culhno above is aweful, yet I question who was in charge in the room when that happened. Isn't it ultimatly her if not her supervisor. This is a place where four legged animals come for safe keeping but the two legged animals are the vicious dangerours animals.

Concerned: I'm a bit confused by your comment but I have plenty of Diet Coke her thanks for looking out. You seem to go both ways, I'd be concerned too. Or at least somone with the upset group.

Where in the story does it state a "supervisor" stood by and watched?
  • Mario · 1 year ago
Senate Bill 1383 sets the standards for euthanasia in the State of California. It is lengthy so I will not include the full text of the Bill in this comment. The Bill states, in part, "...one person shall supervise and adminster the drug and the other person shall do whatever is necessary to ensure that the treatment of the animal during euthanasia is humane." I urge readers to review the complete Bill, and my hope is that each will conclude there was a violation of SB 1383-- and certainly a violation of human decency.

There was a humane way to handle this. Animal tranquilizer guns may be purchased for as little as 75.00. Animal Control officers receive weapons training so lack of skill is no excuse. The dog could have been fed a tranquilizer pill in a morsel of food as well, in order to subdue him. There is simply no excuse or justification for what was done to this dog.

I truly hope Local Rescue is right--that this crime will not just vanish--any meaningful investigation will need to be done by the State of California. The City of Long Beach will protect its own. I would love to be proven wrong on this point.

I've heard of numerous problems with key staff at this facility. From a gay Lt. trying to turn straight married women. So crushed that she doesn't do anything else all day. To married officers and married female staff having extra marital affairs. Most of them alcohalics smelling of booze at work or just not coming in because they are too hung over. Employees disapearing at hours on end with no recourse causing major staff concerns. Employees out on injury continuing to slap those in the face who have to pick up extra shifts while she makes it out for drinks and dancing with the above problem childern. It's just too bad for the animals and staff trying to hold the place together.
  • Pappy · 1 year ago
To Scrabble, comment #28, you clearly can't keep up with the story, this is a copy of the craigslist posting from several days ago. And I quote "The person responsible is Wesley Moore. He hired Sgt (SP), who watched the dog being mishandled and did nothing."

And "Interested", FYI, both Lieutenants are gay, only one looks like it. Many married staff do "co-mingle" thats how they keep their jobs. Someone should check the sick leave charts, you'd be supprised who is "really" calling in sick. I'm sure every employee picks up extra shifts due to the huge resignation rate, so blaming one injured person won't help as there are many. Watch the slander, I hope some of you at Long Beach Animal Control have legal representation, I know I would.

I'm not sure what all this has to do with the brutallity being reported and the department is not denying it. Hopefully it's an isolated event and the city does the proper investigating. It appears alot of the postings are from people close to the animal shelter, so I can't imagin what it is like to work there if this is what is going on. This is junior high at it's worst. What is the relevance to the situation. If looked into by any investigator all current and former employees can be supeonaed to provide a interveiw so that a well rounded assesment can be made. It's just too bad the it wasn't handled or controlled. Who really knows what is going on and if things are done off work site and brought back into the environment it's not managements fault unless they too are part of it as well. It looks like a lot of unhappy perinoid people.

Incident date: Thursday, March 13th 2008

    Re: Euthanasia Incident

Individuals Involved/Witness List: Victor Martinez, Edna Gonzales, Steve Peltier, Bobbie Ryan, Tonya Elliott, Stephanie Anderson.

This is a report of the incident that happened on 3/13/08, per Sgt. Linn’s request on 3/15/08. All information given in this report is the truth to the best of my knowledge.

My shift began at 8:00am on 3/13/08. The impound cards for euthanasia were being review and signed off by Sgt. Linn and Sgt. Peltier. Sgt. Linn reminded me of a dog that I had to sedate because it was too vicious to even get out of his vehicle. I remembered this dog well. I thought it to be one of the most vicious dogs that I have ever seen. He told me, “You should probably Telazol it in the cage”. I agreed and then headed over to the Euthanasia Room to prep it for a usually busy euthanasia day. Sgt. Peltier walked into the Euthanasia Room shortly after I did and told me, “Victor and Edna will be assisting you today with GK”. He told me “Victor is going to stay overtime from the graveyard shift”. I asked him, “Why” and he told me,” Dave and I are going in the field”. No mention to of anybody else helping. He handed me the stack of cards and I reviewed it, 15 dogs, several of them were marked “Caution”, one of them was the a dog Sgt. Linn and I had discussed earlier. Sgt. Peltier left the room. That was the first time I had a bad feeling about the situation. I thought that Edna was still under training and was not ready to be alone. Sgt. Peltier is her training officer, he would know if she is ready to be alone. Victor had a little more experience but, in my eyes, was not the proper person to be with her. I prepared extra sedative and was planning to sedate every dog that day. Victor and Edna arrived to assist a few minutes later. I told Victor about the dog that was too vicious for Dave and that we should Telazol him in the cage. Victor joked laughed and mentioned something to the fact that I was dealing with a pro and that “No worries”. He told me, “I can handle the dog”. I said, “Dave couldn’t even handle the dog”. I was putting the sedative on the syringe pole and Victor said, “Let me try to get him first”. I told him that he was not going to be able to get the dog and I needed to sedate the dog in the cage. Again, he insisted that he will try it first and if not then we can do it in the cage. He left the room with the rabies pole. I asked Edna, “You are still under training right?“ She said, “Yes”. Sgt. Peltier and Bobbie Ryan were outside the room prepping their truck and I knew I could ask for help if needed. I heard a struggle outside of the euthanasia room near the wash rack. I looked over toward the back door and saw Victor fighting and pulling with the dog on the rabies pole. The dog was covering in blood. He pulled the dog through the doorway. Multiple streams of blood were pouring out of his mouth and nose onto the floor. The dog was being pulled into in the room fighting, dripping blood from his mouth and nose and appeared to be having difficulty breathing. I looked up and seen Sgt. Peltier outside the door that Victor brought the dog into. Victor put the dog up next to the wall near the fire extinguisher. The dog was fighting and blood was flying everywhere. I noticed Bobbie Ryan trying to get away from the dog as Victor brought the dog into the building. She was standing still, not knowing where to go. I said, “Watch out girl!“ She backed away and moved out of the way. I told Victor to put the dog into the holding cage so I can sedate him. The noticed that the dog was turning blue. The dog was flipping around and fighting so much that my syringe needle bent and I had to replace it before administering the drug. I lost my footing on a pool of blood as I walked across the room. I administered the drug and the dog was put the dog in the holding cage. Blood was smeared and pooled everywhere. It was on the floors, walls, doors, cabinets, cages, and it dripped on the ground all the way from the dogs cage to the outside of the euthanasia room. Victor had blood on him and I had blood smeared on my hands and shoes. The huge amount of pools of blood on the floor began to clot. I said, “That is why I wanted to sedate him in the cage”. I told him that we can all be fired for this and that this is wrong is so many ways. I told Victor that we need to clean all this blood up before we get into trouble. He told me that we can do it when we are finished with all the dogs so we didn’t have to do it twice. I told him that someone is going to slip and fall and that we should clean it up before the next dog. I began to wipe some of it up with a towel and realized that there was too much and we needed to hose it. I stepped away for a minute to fill out the drug log and then Bobbie Ryan walked back into the room to get a duck that was in a cage very close to the sedated dog. I warned her not to slip and told her that the duck had been in the carrier all night and smells horrible and that she might want to switch carriers. She walked through the blood to get another carrier outside behind the euth room. As she came back into the room, Officer Peltier quickly followed her inside the euthanasia room and stepped through the blood on the floor. He asked, “What’s the hold up?” Bobbie explained that the carrier smelled and I told her to get another one. He told her that she now tracked in the blood twice and make the mess worse. He said, “Whatever, come on!” Bobbie had a confused shocked look on her face and was obviously upset. I followed them out the door and got the hose from the wash rack to clean the blood. Edna Gonzales was still in the room, watching things unfold, unsure what to do. Victor returned with another dog as soon as I started hosing the room. He asked me, “What are you doing?”. I told him, “what just went on here was not right and that if someone had seen this we would all be in trouble or fired.” He was shocked and said, “Really!” Edna remained silent. I again told the both of them that I have sedative for this very reason. I told them “Things can happen, but this is pretty bad, how this would look to the SPCA or people driving on the road outside the room, not to mention that it is wrong”. Victor said “Sorry” and tied the dog that he had to something and took the hose from me and begin cleaning. I started wiping up the blood on the other end of the room near the back door and wash rack. I realized that the whole area needed to be hosed and cleaned up better after we were done. Shortly after this first episode, we had another very aggressive dog. The dog was brought into the euthanasia room with no problem and sedated. There were about 3-4 dogs laying on the floor and I asked Victor to help me lift some of these dogs to get them off the floor. He asked me if I “hit” all of them. I told him, “no, not all of them”. I was drawing up euthanasia solution for a Shar Pei that was on the floor. I noticed Victor picking the dog up. I thought he was going to put him on the table, but he placed him into the bottom of the barrel. I said, “ I having done that dog yet”. He said, “You didn’t?“ I yelled, “No”. I looked in the barrel and the dog was heavily sedated and his breathing was very shallow. I euthanized him in the barrel and asked them not to put any other dogs in the barrel right now. Edna was looking at me and I just shook my head. By this time I was very frustrated with the whole situation. We continued with the dogs, sedating any animal that might possibly be a problem for the two of them to handle. It was taking a long time and I didn’t realize that the shelter was open or about to open. I do not recall the time. Tonya Elliott opened the front door and peaked in and asked, “What happened out here?” Confused, I walked over to the door as she opened it wider and was horrified. Blood and large blood clots had been pushed underneath the door and onto the ground outside the building. Tonya said, “You need to clean this up right now!” “The public can see this, we seen this walking down the sidewalk.” Then I noticed Stephanie Anderson standing there with her mouth wide open. Tonya asked, “What happened?” I was embarrassed and told her “Later.” She told me Stephanie had clipper blades and stuff for me. I pointed to the back near the wash rack to get Stephanie away from the door. Victor begin cleaning the blood and I walked to the back near the wash rack, forgetting about all the blood back there. I was embarrassed and frustrated by everything, so I quickly brushed them off and walked back into the euthanasia room. I realized at that time that this would never happen again. I was not upset with Victor or Edna because I knew neither of them had the proper training and were not qualified to handle very aggressive animals. I was more upset that my supervisor(s) had put myself and my co-workers at risk of injury and that no animal deserves handled in this manner, no matter how vicious it is. Upset and angry, I knew I needed to report this to my supervisor. Sgt. Linn came in from the field late afternoon and I briefly told him that euthanasia was horrible. I briefly told him about the dog he wanted me to sedate. He asked me why I didn’t sedate the dog in the cage. “No matter what Victor told you.” I agreed with him and told him that I should of just demanded more and should of followed him out to the kennel. I told him that Steve was outside and he could help if I Victor and Edna had issues. We both were busy so the conversation was brief. It was after 5:00pm and Officer Peltier walked into the euthanasia room. We had a personal conversation, unrelated to the incident. I then decided to tell him my concerns since he was the person who told me who my assistants would be and I knew he was outside when everything happened. He also was inside after the incident and I knew he was aware of the struggle. I told him, “I don’t ever want to be put in that situation again.” I asked him “why and who decided that these two people would be able to handle these 15 dogs, most of them were “Cautions”. “You two signed the cards and must have been aware of the situation”. He reminded me of out current staffing shortage and that if he didn’t have to go in the field that he would of helped out. I was still really confused but felt a little better that I addressed my concerns to him. I still was unclear about who my supervisor is and ever was. It changes depending on the situation. I have a legal and moral obligation as a Registered Veterinary Technician to report incidents that are wrong/inhumane/illegal/etc. I realize that I am suppose to report this problem and incident to the very governing agency for whom I work for. The next day I pulled Edna aside in private and told her, “What happened yesterday was wrong and should never happen again.” I said, “I know your new and under training and I could see the shock in your face”. I told her, “ I don’t want you to think that this is normal and this is the way things are suppose to be”. I also told her, “I hope that if you ever see this again, that you will report it to your supervisor.” I told her that I was aware that her training supervisor was there and that I know it seems confusing but I just wanted to let her know that it was wrong. She said, “O.K” . I was on the verge of tears and was more upset that I had to explain this to her. At that moment, Victor Martinez entered the room and apologized for things that happened yesterday. He told me that he had been talked to and was told not to handle a dog on a pole like that ever again. He apologized again and then told me that Edna and him were assisting with euthanasia again today. I thought he was joking. We have a pretty good working relationship so I laughed and said, “Yeah, right!“ I didn’t believe him and brushed him off. He assured me that yes indeed, they were told to assist. I was shocked and silent. Edna and I began heading back to the euthanasia room. I told her, “I can’t believe this, I can’t believe you two are helping again after what I told them!” “No offense” I said. She just smiled and was quiet. There were fewer animals to euthanize and everything went well.

What is so bad about this whole thing is that the truth is trying to be disguised by all the name dropping, alleged affairs, and gossip by individuals that can't accept the fact that there are problems at the LBAC. And shame on you, (I know who you are) Scrabble for acting like a little child throwing a fit because you didn't get the love you needed as a child! You need to be careful, because the truth will come out, and when it is all said and done,I don't think you will be standing on that high horse of yours. I love the animals and I love the people of Animal Control that do care...Rachel

That's extemely graffic report, it sounds like the staff were just left to fail by supervisors.

Wow lots of bashing and threats being thrown. Keep in mind the real issue at hand and forget the other crap it's just a bunch of un related crap.

Rachel... I'm not a fan of horses so you don't know me. You must have me confused with some other fit throwing child. Peace

What a bunch of high school girls. You are all so tuff and have so much to say. Like I know who you are and the truth will come out but you don't put your full name down. You loser. Lets have them all put there full names down and see if there story changes.

I am sickened by all of the ridiculous comments posted by the supervision who work at Long Beach Animal Control. You have just proved to the world that you are dysfunctional group of individuals and now everyone is aware of the problem. You threw yourselves under the bus and I thank you for that. Thanks for all the personal attacks on each other, it really gives the press something to feed off of and it gives the public something to laugh at. This is the day to day life at this animal shelter and it is really getting out of hand. The shelter animals are directly being affected by this feud and I can’t believe it has gone on so long. I was shocked and upset when my report first became public, Now I am happy about it and wouldn't change a thing. I hope the animals will benefit from this embarrassment. I am really upset that you all decided to formally charge Victor with cruelty for this. Cowards!! Deal with this the right way. You are ruining his life to cover up the real problem. At least I posted my real name and not some bullshit scribble, dibble, dribble fake name crap. At least I stood up for what is right and had the nerve to do anything about it. I may not have a job or a license after this, but at least I know I did the right thing for the animals. You are all cowards because you have witnessed things that were wrong and just turned your cheek. I am ashamed that I decided to work at such a poorly managed embarrassing shelter. I wish that I was warned about the “warzone” in the office area. This petty management battle hurts everyone involved, including the animals we are suppose to be protecting. Maybe Wesley can post a shelter blog site so employees can bash each other there.
  • Tom J. · 1 year ago
Christine, I don't work there and would have left right away if I did but you are part of the problem and now are shoving everyone in the way to save your own skin like every one else in this blog. You and your people started by naming names in the begining and now that they all got mad and I am sure a few others who where not named are posting in to slam a few people they don't like. It took you long enough to put your name down. What about the posts at the begining what ones where you or your buddys and now you call them cowards try putting the names on the first few posts to see who started naming names that is the cowards they see the story and slam some people by putting there names down to try and prove something. You should have controlled the situation and handled it better don't just blame someone else for your own problem and the way you handled it and pat yourself on the back becouse you posted what happened. You messed up that day you should have taken control and handled it better so don't run and hide and say they should all be in trouble and call the news to cover yourself.
How long have you worked there?
What took you so long to speak up?
Why did you wait for it to get this bad before you said something?
Could you not get another job?
You hide behind the news so they can't touch you now becouse you broke the story. That is a coward and now the people named will be fired or written up and everything else that comes from this will be on your back. I hope you can find Victor a job and every one else that gets fired from this.

Oh Yeah, one more thing - why is this place still open? HR told me the shelter would be shut down if it was without a Veterinary Premise Permit. That was 3 weeks ago. Why is it still open without a permit? You need to have one. It is the law. Hello!!! Do you understand? Ilegal !

If you have something to say to me or if you just want to post a comment that you think might draw attention away from the real problem, go ahead. I would rather have you stop by my house. My address is posted on the VMB's website. I would rather have you verbally attack me in person.
  • Tom J. · 1 year ago
#43 is that not a attack???
You are also taking away from the problem by posting you own problems. It has become a b@@ch session here and you also are doing it and now once again want it all to go away from you by saying stop by my house to take it off you. You are crying like a little kid and your last comment to shut it down how is that going to help the animals? We are here for the animals not you or anyone else's problems or vendetta's. Animals first and a permit I am sure some dumb paperwork can be done on someone's time not while the animals suffer. Once again crying to get your way.
Do you still work for the place that you hate so much or do you have a new job becouse as a tax payer I sure don't want to pay you while you sit on your a@@ and collect a check. If the place is that bad leave and get a job and follow up to make sure the changes happen.

Before continuing with last Thursday’s proceedings in the Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue felony animal-cruelty trial, Long Beach Superior Court Judge Jesse Rodriguez told the jury about new revelations regarding the medical and treatment records of the nearly 300 animals seized from the shelter during a raid last year.

Deputy District Attorney Mark Burnley and Attorney Todd Krauss — representing former Noah’s Ark owner Alexiea Tiraki-Kyrklund and her volunteer Gloria Ramos — discussed the new findings with Rodriguez at a special hearing Thursday morning.

According to both attorneys, the copies of medical and treatment records given to them by Long Beach Animal Control lacked information that the original records contained (such as medications given, microchip numbers and kennel locations). In addition, they discovered that the original records had been added to and changed since the copies were handed over to the attorneys.

Finding it to be a violation of the discovery process statutes of the California Penal Code 1054, Rodriguez gave Krauss the option of either considering a mistrial or continuing the case with a special instruction to the jury.

“The court is very disappointed about it,” Rodriguez said. “I don’t understand how this happened, I just don’t.”

After discussing the options with Tiraki-Kyrklund and Ramos, Krauss chose to continue the trial on the conditions that the jury be instructed of the new findings and that he have more leeway during the trial’s closing statements.

“We knew that the truth would only come out in trial, so mistrial was not an option,” Tiraki-Kyrklund said.

Burnley said he cannot comment on the case during the duration of the trial.

Last year, animal control officers raided Noah’s Ark — then located at 1333 Redondo Ave. — and seized nearly 300 dogs and cats, claiming the animals were living in unsanitary conditions. Both defendants were charged with 13 felony counts of animal cruelty, and Tiraki-Kyrklund also was charged with two misdemeanor city ordinance counts. Each animal cruelty charge carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison.

Once the jury was brought up to date on the matter Thursday afternoon, the trial continued with Krauss’s cross-examination of Christine Culhno, a registered veterinary technician for Long Beach Animal Control who examined all 299 cats and dogs taken from Noah’s Ark on Aug. 23, 2006.

Krauss questioned the validity of Culhno’s previous testimony (on Wednesday) that many of the animals seized were severely sick, with ear infections and matted fur — among other health problems — pointing out that she is not officially qualified to make any medical diagnoses.

He asked her why a number of the animals taken from Noah’s Ark got sick after the raid, during their stay at the animal control facilities, and why some took months to get better, despite the pristine environment at animal control. She explained that incubation periods for some illnesses and infections can vary from animal to animal, and that it is not uncommon for animals at times to get sick while at animal control.

Culhno said she still believes it was better to submit the animals to the stress of being moved out of Noah’s Ark rather than leaving them at the shelter.

“I believe they needed to be in a different environment to get better from the disease or to prevent the disease from becoming worse,” she said.

During questioning, Culhno said she had no personal knowledge of when any of the animals arrived at Noah’s Ark, under what health conditions they were brought there, what medical treatment they received at the shelter, or whether Tiraki-Kyrklund and Ramos gave any care and attention to the animals at Noah’s Ark.

During the trial, Krauss also showed the jury medical treatment records and impound cards for numerous dogs and cats showing that many of the animals taken from Noah’s Ark were then given the same medications and treatment (or no treatment at all) despite having different types of ailments. Culhno said she did not prescribe any of the medications (she is not qualified to do so), and instead treated the animals using prescriptions given by another veterinarian at animal control.

The Noah’s Ark trial continued Friday and will resume on Monday, Nov. 26, at Long Beach Superior Court.

Ms. Cuhlno showed great courage in exposing this act of cruelty by LBAC. She did the right thing in filing a complaint, even to the point of risking her job and the wrath of co-workers and others. Regarding her testimony at the Noah's Ark trial (post 47), perhaps there was pressure on her to spin the facts in favor of the prosecution.

She is to be commended for bringing the dog killing incident to light.

....I saw all of this coming to ahead two yrs ago when my dog was taken away and killed for a single dog fight incident(the other dog was'nt even killed).Quigley lied about everything even showed strangers who she invited into court to see the picture of my dog, the pictures of the injured dog were fiddled with to make it seem like the poor creature had been attacked by wolves. The picture of my dog wasn't even my dog, you will spend thousands of dollars on lawyers trying to save your dog. In the end Quigley recieved her thriil in ordering my dog killed, giggling and smirking as she orders a dog killed.I hope they do shut the shelter down its not there to protect the animals.

I actually have a lot to say, but not like this. Though advised not to, I felt it necessary to give some type of response in support of what is right. What I have to say will go to Heather Reger (directly and on the record), Ron Arias, Human Resources, Patrick West and any other official or legal intity necessary. I am fully aware of who is defaming the good character of some of these employees, these issues will be legally addressed as well. This IS what ocurres on a daily basis in the life at Long Beach Animal Control. This is partially why I resigned my position. I can now address these issues without any retaliation against me or the good people left at Animal Control.

Hi all -- long time no "chat". Just thought you all should be updated on the goings on in Long Beach, CA. I know many of you thought that Noah's Ark supporters and Alex/Gloria were plum crazy when we talked about the evil pit that is Long Beach. Guess what -- people in Long Beach can tell a pile of horseshit from the truth...and now it's all oozing out. You'll note that Christine Culhnoe, the vet tech who lied on the stand during Alex/Gloria's trial, and Lt Elliot who perjured herself on the stand and the judge overruled Atty Krauss objection....have now both resigned from Long Beach. Alex and Gloria have paid a huge price for the sins of Lt. Michelle Quigley. Animal Cruelty???? Read the story below! Alex and Gloria never allowed such horrible, cruel treatment of animals in their care at Noah's Ark. Quigley was just jealous -- NA was finding homes for animals not torturing them and killing them like team LBAC.

The seams of Long Beach's little world are coming apart, read on! BTW anyone think Pnina Gerston didn't make a deal with the devil NOW? She turned on Alex and got in bed with Quigley. I question her judgement even more now after this article.

Tom J -- uh hello -- pull your head out of your ass! Culhno is a whistleblower plain and simple. If you can't figure that out, then you've probably got your nose up Quigley's ass. Or maybe you are Quigley -- she seems to like to use a male name as an alias...or maybe she's transgendered. Whatever -- she's been running an animal auschwitz for too long.

Elliott -- you never had the balls to do what she's done -- maybe now you'll sack up...but unless you can admit that you've been part of the problem and can show how Quigley was out to get you, I got no respect for you my friend. How many dog and cat carcasses do you need piled up on your doorstep before you'll finally grow a set?

Christine, why don't you contact the Noah's Ark Attorneys and let them know how you were pressured to testify with lies. Elliott doesn't have the balls to admit that either.

BTW -- don't waste your time with Ron Arias -- he's a tool. You all need to be talking with the California Attorney General's office. Ask Quigley for her contact there -- she's got someone she's been feeding lies to for months, it will be eye-opening when they find out they were led so far astray by a total mental case.

Someone also needs to take Quigley up on charges of animal cruelty and ensure that she never has contact with any kind of animal ever again...she just enjoys killing them too much. BTW -- Christine -- don't let Quigely get hold of your home address unless you're going to have round the clock police protection. I'm not kidding! Ask Gloria Ramos. Quigley is a f***in nut case, and you all are paying her a real nice salary. Time to put an end to the gravy train.

Thanks Heather for bringing the truth out! It needs to be broadcast even bigger and there's more skeletons hiding in the closet for you. You should contact Alex Kirkland -- she has some details you'd really enjoy!

Well it seems the dam has finally burst. Although the name-calling on some of the posts detracts from the real issues here, I trust Ms. Reger to use her excellent skills to bypass the baloney and further investigate the conditions and operation of Long Beach Animal Control. I suspect the reader will be appalled at what she uncovers, should Ms. Reger decide to pursue this.

When they dumbed down the position for Wesley to take over...that was the beginning of the end. Now if they can oust Little Timmy we will be golden. I fully agree with Christine as for the incident. They dumped ill trained and virtually untrained people to assit her in doing a job that definately requires years of experience to accomplish correctly. As for all the other BS rumors, just keep in mind this is coming from the people whose ass is in a sling right now. Scrabble, you need to lay off the bleach...it's getting into the grey matter. Maybe now there may be a glimmer of hope for this organization to regain the reputaion it once held in the industry. Doubt it though those days have past. You must be in bed with Culhno to once again try and take the light off of her or are you her posting as someone else? She sure can't seem to answer any of my questions can she. Hide under that rock you built up and yes we all know she is the whistle blower and is hiding behind that of course. You are making it out like she did nothing wrong she should have taken charge and handled it better. The problem is on her and her lack of taking charge. You goggle her name and more than one thing comes up she has been on alot of articles and there always seems to be some question of what happened or how it was handled. If it was that bad and she was worried about a piece of paper then get a new job. When you sit there and let it happen intell shit hits the fan you are no better than the people you are blaming and I do believe you hold all the responsibilty of what heppened. You can say they should have had someone better trained for what to make your job easy? Stand up and say I messed up and don't blame other people as a tax payer I don't want to pay for someone higher up to take a dog from one room to the other give me a god dam break that is what the as they say one had some training and the other was in training work with what you have or leave and shut the hell up.

Animal Control used to be a great place to work. It's to bad that things had to come to an end like this.

Wesley's gone but it really should have been Michelle Quigley that was ousted. Animal Control has gone down hill every since Michelle became a lieutenant. And her position is really a Senior Officer, but she wanted to be like the SPCA, so she made herself a Lieutenant.
If Wesley had followed in the footsteps of his successor(Roger Hatakeyama) Animal Control would still be a well respected organization.
Through bad judgements, vendictiveness, and threats Michelle has drug Wesley and animal control down to nothing.
People get tired of being threatened with insubordination and other disciplinary actions. Things were so bad that Michelle had gotten to the point were if you had a problem and you didn't like the way she handled it, she told employees they couldn't go to Wesley for a second opinion because she would write them up.
Employees keep leaving because Michelle is a hard person to work with. What she does is for the good of Michelle, not the good of Animal Control.
Take a survey of all the employees that no longer work at Animal Control and you'll find that they left because of the bad treatment employees recieved at the hands of Michelle Quigley and Tonyan Elliott, before Tonya became one of Michelle's targets. hahahahaha.

They had to dumb down the position. If you are so great why did you not get the job? I bet it was some once again a thing that was sweep under the carpet. You all make me laugh you will push people under the bus but one thing is he was only as good as the people under him and it can't just be one or two people that make a place run so crappy. He should have cleaned house with all you cry baby's and started fresh. I bet he had a few that worked for him and not against him. The ones on the bottom are always the cry baby's becouse they are where they belong at the bottom and cry becouse they have to work and always want a change to make there lives easy. Lets see in about 6 months you will all cry about something new and put the blame on someone new becouse you are a loser and will always be a loser. If you are that great go in and demand that you get his job becouse you are so great and don't cry and say crap if you don't get it shut up and deal with it or move on and do something else. I am sure there are alot of people that need jobs and are willing to go the extra mile for the animals and not just cry about things. If this is about the animals then shut up and make it your goal to make things better with who and what you have. I have read all the posts and sounds like a bunch of crap stand up and say I will make this place better and go the extra mile don't just sit in the corner and cry a river and point fingers.

"I fully agree with Christine as for the incident. They dumped ill trained and virtually untrained people to assit her in doing a job that definately requires years of experience to accomplish correctly."
It takes years of experiance to take a dog from one room to the other. What the hell has this world came to a bunch of pussy's. If she would have as she said followed him and sedate the dog in the cage. This would not be a issue. She did not take control and do her job and is dumping it now on everyone else.

What was the dog bleeding from? I had a dog loose a tooth once and thought he was dying becouse of all the blood that was comming out and he was fine just lost a tooth..

You all act like you know who is posting what. If you know who it is what are you going to do about it nothing I am sure besides bitch some more. You have all said things and hide behind fake names. Shut up and deal with it.

I am fully aware of who is defaming the good character of some of these employees, these issues will be legally addressed as well. This IS what ocurres on a daily basis in the life at Long Beach Animal Control.
Please shut the hell up you don't have crap and can't do crap anyways it is all opinions and rumers can't do shit for that DUMBASS

If we are hear for the animals start by helping them and focus on them and SHUT THE HELL UP.

I am so sick of the I am a tax payer crap!! I pay taxes too, does that mean I have to work under a hostile work environment or poor training because you pay taxes? If you are a resident of Long Beach or one of our contracted cities you would know that we provide a much needed service. I am proud of what I do.I did go to the management team on issues that I knew where detrimental to the moral and future of this department, and I was met with hostility. Should I have left, sure, I know I wouldn't be in the position I find myself in now. But i think that there is still hope at LBAC. Tom J why don't you flex your muscles at tomorrows council meeting at 4:30 pm in LB and demand that your tax dollars be put to better use...

I just want to say that i am sooooooooo proud of you Chris!!!!! I am so happy to call you my bestfriend of more than 30 yrs:) even though you might get fired and lose your licence you were brave enough to finally say" thats f@@ckin enough!" Even though your a single mom with a family to support you said "thats f@@ckin enough!". You dont understand how much i love animals..so much that i could never be a vet tech because i would be cryin all the time. I need a bumpersticker that says i slow down for butterflies! Chris is such a hero in my eyes right now..its all about the animals for her now and getting someone in there who doesnt care about bonus, raises,or vacations..because if you are truly there for the animals in the mgt position or anywere in the LBAC you work 24/7...thats how much your suppose to care. I know there are plenty of people out there who would work for half the pay those so called animal lovers get to make sure everything is done right and legally and most of all humainly..cause thats why they went into the field they went into right???...or is it becase animals cant speak so they can do whatever they want to whenever and only hear the cry of animals..which obviously is not a big deal to them. Never have i seen chris so distraught over this job and what she should do...who to report to? who to trust? was she going to beable to take care of her family? Everyone in higher mgt all seemed like back stabbing people who didnt care about anything..so how do you report it to them?..frustrating for anyone at any job. The stories she told me broke my heart and i hated the SPCA and the people who did nothing for the animals at the LBAC. SHAME ON all who knowingly hurt, starved, beaten, ignored, disrespected those animals who depend on us to survive!!!!...HURRAY for the people who have found there confidence and there voice to speak up for the animals that we all love so much:) I LOVE YOU CHRIS!!!!YOUR DOING WHATS RIGHT FOR THE ANIMALS YOU LOVE!!! P.S. This message is to TOM J...calm down before you burst a blood vessel..this is a good thing, take a look at the whole picture.all she is doing is trying to make all the wrong at the LBAC and the SPCA into something that is right...why are you arguing with her? Do you argue with everyone who is tryin to do somethin right?..do you cheer for all that bad in animal crulety? I bet you were one of those people that said the TELETUBBIES were a bad influence and that one of them was gay huh?..meaning that you will try and find the bad in the nicest silliest thing and try and flip it....your a weirdo if you against treating animals with love and care and respect..cause since your talkin all that poopy the readers would have to believe that...try and right some positive stuff..and if you feel all warm and fuzzy doin it..dont be alarmed..it just means you care.
  • Tom J · 1 year ago
I bet everyone has a family to support that is involved. That is the problem they are all blaming each other and all have a family to support and take care of but it did not stop her from starting a war and also the first few posts I am sure where her and her buddy's naming names and then when there names got thrown out also they ran. Work should be a familey also and you all work together and we have all had that one or two people that we don't get along with and you learn to deal with it, work around it or leave.
How about the guy that got let go or left what about his family? Is she better than him?
My soft side she is trying to make a right and put blame on the other people that where not there. It was a bad day and they tryed to cover it up and not go for help right away that is my problem and she wrote that.
"I told him that we can all be fired for this and that this is wrong is so many ways. I told Victor that we need to clean all this blood up before we get into trouble"
It happened move on and make sure it does not happen again. I am sure there will be a few fall guys for the whole thing and then back to normal like always and some lives will be changed for a dog that was on his was to be put down anyway. You learn from your mistakes and don't be so quick to put blame on others. No dog should suffer but familys should not be ruined also becouse of this. Come with a solution not a problem and don't say that no one would help either you did not go high enough to solve it you hide and went the easy route and have them do the dirty work.

What positive has she wrote about other people besides throwing them under the bus?

Trust me I do care I have been there and gotten a animal from there but see no reason why this has gone so far for what. I think they should all write who they think should be fired and how to fix it. Come with a solution and not a vendetta and don't say anyone would be better than this or that person. If you are so great or have someone that is. Stand up and take charge or get them to. I don't deal with unions or I would take charge and clean house all the cry baby's gone first becouse they are always the dead weight and the ones they hate keep them becouse most people hate the ones that are doing the right thing even if they don't think so that is why they have the jobs under them and did not get that job..

TELETUBBIES if you don't think they where creepy then you got a huge problem and he was the gay one.

Getting back to the crime committed against the dog, one wonders what the charges will be against those involved. If the Noah's Ark defendants can be charged with felony animal cruelty for having taken in animals with ear infections and matted fur (post 47), then what charges are appropriate for those who participated in the gruesome killing of the dog at LBAC?

Here's how this will most likely play out: There will be wrist-slappings and stern finger-shakings all the way around; there will be investigations that go nowhere; one or two heads may roll; felony charges may be filed--they will then be reduced to misdemeanor(s) or dropped entirely; it will be business as usual at LBAC. The unspeakable act of cruelty to the dog will go unpunished.

Quigley's inability to work with people to resolve problems ( remember she works for the people of Long Beach ) her enthusiasm for killing dogs. I have seen her glee arguing for a dog to be killed in one of those hearings. The shameful high kill rate at animal control. Over 50% of the dogs that go into animal control will not come out alive ( the kill rate would be much higher if SPCA didn't take dogs off death row ). She has the unwavering support of her boss Wesley Moore. The team of Quigley/Moore will turn the facts around to justify their morbid, sick desire to kill dogs. They both most GO. Time to hire people to take their place that care about animals and the people that love their animals. The people of Long Beach want a no kill shelter and Animal Control works for the people. I pay more tax dollars than Quigley/Moore put together. I am disgusted by the way they treat dogs and people. Fire them Already! PS: Press Telegram your nothing more than a rag masquerading as a second class newspaper.

    Hey loser!!!!!!!!

Think what you want and try and figure it out but I go to work and enjoy my job. I would not work for a city or a union. It might be hard for your little mind to figure it out but with all these posts it was not hard to goggle all the names and follow the pattern and Yes I have a brain and can make up my own mind and don't need someone to tell me what to believe and not believe. All of the people that work there blasted each other at the beginning and named names and just follow the trail and state what I see and believe.

Why don't you all figure a way to work with what you have and SHUT UP AND STOP CRYING AND HELP THE ANIMALS. If they are first then get to work and help them. If you have investigators that is a step in the right direction and they hopefully will trim the fat and get rid of the cry baby's and help the place move forward not backward.

Wow the ignorance about animal overpopulation is amazing. There is no such thing as a "no-kill" shelter. Those that claim they are "no-kill" either are VERY selective about the animals they take (shelters take whatever comes in) or take the bad animals to a regular shelter to be euthanized. Look at that story where PETA even euthanizes animals and threw their bodies in a regular trash dumpster. The third kind of shelter is a "low-kill" where there give all the healthy, friendly animals a chance and euthanize only those with severe medical issues and/or behavior problems. These are usually not-for-profit places. Many animals are returned for numerous reasons, but most people don't want to adopt an animal with medical problems, old age, or aggressive issues. And those that do, rescue way too many and hoard, which in turn causes more suffering to the animals because they live in squanderous conditions (i.e. Noah's Ark). That's the reality. I use to work at a government agency, so I've seen a lot. If you want a "no-kill" shelter Long Beach, then every human being needs to adopt 20 animals. That means that every family of four needs to adopt 80 animals. Impossible. But that is based on the statistics of the animal overpopulation problem in this country. SPAY AND NEUTER!!!!!! EDUCATE!!!!! If everyone was a responsible pet owner, we wouldn't be having these issues!!!!

WOW....... I wonder if Wes has figured it out yet. I've always told my fellow coworkers that Michelle was setting herself up to get Wes position.

I couldn' posted my comment under the article that talked about the comments made by the City Manager, so I had to post them here.

Ron Arias and Michael Johnson have been sweeping stuff under the carpet for so long it not even funny. They won't admit it but they've gotten lots of complaints about Michelle, and Tonya for that matter, but they have chosen to do nothing. Well this time instead of getting rid of the obvious problem they got rid of Wes. Hmmmmm....... are Ron and Michael also lacking the balls to stand up to Michelle.
Animal Control has had some really GOOD Officers, but they were run off by Michelle's threats, and constant badgering. I wonder how well she we do now that Roger's coming back. Roger and Mark Carey never took any crap from Michelle. They kept her in her place. She's always wanted to be in charge and once Roger left she had a clear shot at the management prize. She led Wes around by the balls and he never even so the end coming.
While he was crying in his beer on Monday night with Michelle, she was laughing behind his back, because she got what she wanted which was Wes gone. Ahhhhhh.... but she didn't count on them bring Roger back.

As long as Michelle S. Quigley is in any kind of Authoritative position at Animal Control things won't be right. Oh she's smiling for the camera and acting all concerned for Wes, the animals and the employees but Michelle is an uncaring, bitchey, meanspirted spitful, backstabbing person.

She will once again make Animal Control and the City of Long Beach look stupid.
I will never forget the bird incident.

MIchelle's a good talker, she convinced Wes, Mr. Shannon, Mr Arias, Mr Johnson, and even police officers and the rest of the city bigwigs, that Mr Southwick owned a bird sold by the SPCA.
All the people above and others put their words on the line about how positive they were that this man was the birds owner. All because Michelle said so.

Guess what!!!!!!!!!? They all ended up with bird poop on their faces. The subject quickly became taboo and the employees were threatened with disciplinary action if they every mentioned that incident again.

Wes told an employee if she didn't like the way they handled the Bird issue she could quit. Michelle even changed the adoption policy for employees given her control over who could and could not adopt an animal.
Michelle is no more than a school yard Bully. I certainly hope that Mr West can presuade Mr. Arias and Mr. Johnson out of the ideal that Michelle Quigley should have any kind of Authority, Wes is gone, send Michelle packing too.

Bring in someone who can manage and run that organization like it should be run. Michelle has hired lots of her friends and they have all quit because they can't work with her.

Well, she does have one friend left there. She works as a clerk making an officer's salary(check out for yourself) and was promised by Michelle that she would never have to work weekends and she doesn't. Wow....if I were her friend that would be enough to keep me there too. Everybody needs one alia.

Wes should have stood up more indefense of the employee. When you have a good supportive Management Team you have happy employees. When you have Michelle Quigley, you have unhappy, disgruntled, looking for a new job employees. Since Wes and Michelle have been in charge of running the daily operations of animal control, the employee turnover rate is higher than it's every been in the history of Animal Control, check it out.
Michelle Quigley is the problem. Getting Rid of Wes was not the solution.

    Well,
The sh&t storm is here people. Heads are rolling. We have to thank the formal disgruntled employees for that. THANKS!! A New begining on the horizon a breath of fresh air. It was a matter of time before this house of cards buckled. Anyone working at LBAC saw it coming.
The only thing that sucks about this is the way these disgruntled ex employees just threw each other under the bus to save their own asses.

Culhno has no one to blame but herself in the way she handled that day in the euthanasia room. Blaming management for her incompetence is not an excuse. She was assisted by an Animal Control Officer w/ at least 1 1/2 years of experience, this was no rookie. You mean to tell me that he was "inexperienced" to move a vicious dog from one room to another when he had been working the field dealing w/ vicious dogs all by himself for over 1 year??. That makes no sense, unless you hold on to that as an excuse to victimize yourself. The Vet Tech is in charge of that day's euthanasia plain and simple and a mistake was made. True the ACO used poor judgement in handling that animal, but I don't believe it was as bad as they made this seem I don't believe that SP is going to go into the room and not question a blood bath and just walk over "pools of clotting blood". That's bullsh%$t. Believe me if it was as bad as she described it Elliot would have taken pictures w/ her camera cell phone that she always carried on her hip (not one picture of any blood trails or pools) and made sure that dog carcass be tagged and held in the freezer for more pictures of the "bloody dog" too make this an even bigger story. Think about it folks.

Well there you have it, I hope you gals can sleep at night. I know poor Vic won't. Happy job hunting.

You have to be a stupid ass for that comment. I am 100% red, white and blue and will die that way. I have and will do anything for the US so kiss my ass. Union's
I have watched a union hurt many family's becouse a few pieces of shit wanted to not work as hard and and not have to work overtime and started shit like this and they all went on strike and the ones who worked there for years and made a great living from it stood behind ther union and the place sold and they did not bring back the union so all the people that stood behind it had to look for new jobs and a new way to live and the union just left and told them they would try and get them money later and nothing ever happened. So shut the HELL UP unions are a small part of this world and they think everything goes around them. Guess what many of us work and do just fine without one. We stand up for ourselves. Legal are kidding me have you looked around you are in Cali shut up.

My opinion-you dont believe that SP just stood by and watched the incident on March 13? Wow what planet are you from? This person was there, he treats people he doesn't like with the same malice as he did that morning. He was the officer that trained "V" suspended because of that incident. He is a BIG part of the system breakdown! I have seen him slam dogs into the wagon with undue force. He trains using intimidation tactics and he has no respect for animals. He was heavily protected by Wes and Quigley and they both knew he had some problems in the past with his dog handling skills! He's not qualified to train anyone..he needs to look elsewhere for the quality of work he does. But he continues to train, continues to be Quigley's "brute", but you give him a chance he will throw Quigley under that bus too. They gave him the field supervisor- and look not much of a field left! You blaming the "girls' for "v" taking the fall, you are so wrong, Quigley wants him out..that's how she runs her show! "V' is a good guy with a family and I believe he was exhausted from working graveyard and then being asked to help with euthanasia. Where was the two SGT"S...they had a good nights sleep...they new that there were alot of dogs that day! Did they stay back to help? Did they have priorty one calls to respond to? NO, they left RVT, "V" and a officer trainee..that's classic..that's not just the "girls". I can sleep at night, i can tell the truth..and it will be exposed.

Congratulations to Quigley for the promotion, however, I bet it's a bittersweet taste since the truth is starting to surface...

Oh yes, there is a huge karmic debt to be paid for all the lies and deceit, and the pain that you've caused so many Michelle Quigley. Crooked public officials paid by the citizens to protect the citizens (and their property) who abuse the publics trust are some of the lowest scum there is. -Enough of the hypocrisy and lies the wheels of justice might turn slow, but the momentum is unstoppable.
  • secretsmile · 1 year ago
The city is scared they suspended the officer and made Moore resign. Now bringing in all the top guns to clean up the mess Moore and Quigley have left. Obviously Quigley must go that is a given and possibly a few others or those may a least be put back in there rightful place. Believe me nothing like this will happen over there again you can thank the top guns for that, they don't want to be embarassed again. The road to recovery is going to be long and hard and I doubt that I or many others will make it all the way through. That part is sad. It has just been to difficult to deal with for years and now it's just overwhelming. Hopefully things will be better in the next life.

It is impossible for an outsider reading these posts to draw any conclusions about the work environment at LBAC-- who is right, who is wrong, who is a great bureacrat but a lousy animal officer, who is experiencing undue work place pressures, who is lazy, and who is self-centered. I hope that an investigation provides some answers. However, I wanted to make a couple of comments. First--whistleblowers are always maligned. Standing up to evil is very difficult-it requires courage and confidence, so keep you chin up Ms. Whistleblower. I certainly hope that when the dust settles, your act of courage leads to some improvements at the shelter. All work-places have their own unique dynamics, their own petty and genuine work-place failures and flaws, because we are all flawed people. As a local veterinarian and a resident of Long Beach, I am deeply disturbed that our shelter has not managed to find productive and constructive means to improve adoption rates and reduce kill rates. Nathan Winograd of No Kill Solutions claims that the success of the shelter depends on good leadership. I imagine that running a governmental agency with a great deal of red tape has its share of challenges. I also imagine that working in a place that neccessitates killing in order to clean up messes of someone else's making (breeders), and continue to care as you kill, leads to compassion fatigue. This is the reason that many of us have been fighting for over a year to pass AB1634. I strongly suggest that anyone who has not logged on to cahealthypets, does so, and lends this bill a hand. Your jobs will not get easier until we have fewer animals to kill.
In the meantime, please please please, keep your mind on the animals as much as is humanly possible. I hope that everyone working there tries their absolute best to look for solutions and foster cooperation, rather than division. You guys are their voices. You guys are their only hope.

I am not responsible for the slaughter of animals at shelters and pounds across the United States. I refuse to have my animal spayed or neutered. I refuse to take my animal with me when I move. I refuse to provide for my animal’s welfare after I die. I refuse to keep my animal when I give birth to a child. I dump my animal on the freeway hoping it will be killed. I abandon my animal in my back yard when I move. I let my animal go fend for itself in the wild. I do not keep my animals confined so they can get loose. I hoard animals. I abuse and neglect animals. I starve my animals. I am a backyard breeder. I am a puppy mill. I raise animals for fighting purposes. I am John Q Public. I am not responsible. The pounds and shelters are. The taxpayers are. It's good this stuff is coming out but Long Beach is already trying to sweep it under the rug. Quigley has a promotion -- wtf??? It's going to take more than just blog posts and newspaper interviews. You all gotta write to people, call people, and show up. Otherwise they'll just say it was few bad apples pissin and moanin. We all know that's not true.
  • Murder She Wrote · 1 year ago
Lt. Quigley needs to step forward and explain to the public why she was at the Noah's Ark trial long after her testimony had concluded. Day after day she sat in court at taxpayer's expense. Her part was over, yet she would show up in court almost every day. Quigley maintained all along she had no personal grudge against Noah's Ark, so what was she doing in court all this time? Her presence there is especially egregious given the comments about how understaffed the shelter is and how the animals are not cared for properly.

I blame the people I put in charge. I blame you.

Dog: But it's not my fault

Veterinarian, Shelter worker, breeder, John Q Public:

Dog: How does that help me? I am still going to die.

QUIGLEY MUST GO! Contact the city mayor, city district council member, city manager, ect. Let them know you won't stand for this and demand that supervision at LBAC be removed and New Capable Leadership be allowed to bring LBAC back to the top where it once held it's rightful place in the industry. Until this is done LBAC will be nothing but 2nd rate with continual turnover in staff and breakdowns in it's effectiveness to get the job done right the first time

Truth of the Matter -- while technically correct, your post leaves out one condition that changes everything. There are people at LBAC who care about animals -- they just don't happen to be part of Quigley's favorites. Yes, they could quit -- but where does that leave the animals? Some people who are self-involved might be able to just walk away, but it looks to me like lots of people have been gritting their teeth because they see the bigger picture: if they left the conditions for the animals would be 100 times worse.

Also, don't know if you noticed the economy lately -- jobs aren't exactly a dime a dozen for everyone. I give the people who have endured the reign of Quigley a lot of credit. I give Cuhlno A LOT of credit. Elliott -- you not so much. You were part of Quigley intimidation team and were trying to manipulate Quigley for Moore's job yourself. It's good that you finally decided to come clean, but the reason seems a bit different than Cuhlno's or the other folks in the trenches.

Sorry truth of the matter -- the "you're not slaves" argument doesn't hold for me.
  • Does not hold water · 1 year ago
I don't buy the no jobs or we love the animals too much arguments. Unless you want to play victim, to right any wrongs to persons or creatures make use of the ample resources available to you if you want to leave LBAC's employment.
  • Blog Posts Aren't Enuf · 1 year ago
From what I read here, the union has been trying to do just that and has been being stonewalled. The compliants are probably sitting in Arias's shredder.

I'm sorry "Doesn't Hold Water" that you're such a pessimist, in reality a lot of people endure terrible situations because it protects the innocent and those without a voice. This is one of those cases I think.

In the meantime, if it's so easy to get a job why don't you do a little experiment and get one...you don't have to take all those job offers that roll in. The only requirement is that you list your current employer as LBAC. You MIGHT be able to get a job at Carson, or maybe Devore (where just recently and AC officer kicked a dog to death) -- but no respectable agency wants to hire someone from LBAC....ask Elliott.

One very AMPLE resource folks is Senator Lowenthal's office in Sacramento. Write to his office or call and ask for an investigation from his level. The "I'll cover your ass if you cover mine" city folks aren't EVER going to really look into this -- they need it to go away FAST so they can get those big Federal grants they're applying for.

    Something to hide maybe?

The following appeal to Senator Alan Lowenthal was flagged from Craigslist:

Lt. Michelle Quigley has run her department as a horrible tyrannical fiefdom but recent incidents have pushed employees to become emboldened enough to speak out. Apparently the local union has been stonewalled for years and compliants to Ron Arias, head of the governing agency, have gone unaddressed for YEARS. Last week, the head of Animal Control, Wesley Moore was forced to resign. Lt. Quigley was promoted to his position. This is ludicrous. The city says it will investigate the problems, but since Lt. Quigley was part of the problem -- how can they really do an investigation that gets to the heart of the problem? Senator Lowenthal PLEASE open up your own investigation into this out of control agency within your district. Long Beach Animal Control's "shelter" has one of the highest kill rates in Southern California. Lt. Quigley has been on a crusade to get rid of local rescues rather than work with them, she would rather sell shelter animals to local
testing labs or kill them and sell them by the pound to D & D Rendering. Strikingly, the citizens of Long Beach voted for a No-kill shelter over 3 years ago. Yet the kill rate continues to climb. The local breeding ban was over-turned by the City Council -- against the wishes of the people -- when Eukanuba wanted to bring the Dog Show to Long Beach. So Long Beach city government encourages irresponsible breeding and holds up the other end of their deal with irresponsible kill rates. Please, read the full story at The District: http://thedistrictweekly.com/daily/writing-shot... and the follow up story here: http://thedistrictweekly.com/daily/writing-shot... Please, weed your way through the comments. Many employees who -- rightly so -- fear retaliation have posted under assumed names. WE NEED YOUR HELP! The city will not do a real investigation of this problem, they'll just white wash the incident. This is a festering cancer and they want to use neosporin and band aids to deal with it! We need YOUR help. We need an independent investigation with full disclosure of its findings to the general public. PLEASE help us make the Long Beach shelter a safe place for animals not a killing field! Location: Long Beach

Help me here I'm a little confused, I'm well aware of Quigley's love of the kill, and the high, high kill rate at the shelter. However this is the first time I have heard about pets being sent off to labs to be tested. I understand that sending pets off to medical labs is highly illegal and most unethical, cruel. How is it that Quigley is pulling this one out of the hat?iIs it possible that my lost cat Pywackit is at Monsanto or Squibb being used for a mad scientist experiment?

  • Big Changes Needed · 1 year ago
It's actually not illegal to sell animals from the shelter to testing labs. It is illegal to do in under 5 days according to the Hayden Act, and without notifiying the owner of the animal according to its microchip according to the Food and Ag code. But does that make it a good thing? NO! Long Beach citizens could lobby for a law that says no sales to testing labs. Someone else here has suggested writing to Senator Lowenthal. Ask his office to investigate Hayden Act and Food/Ag code violations. There need to be repercussions for violating.

As for your kitty? I would say Q probably killed your cat. The kill rate for kitties at LBAC is 80% from last reports.

Interviewed--Don't fall for that LBAC present employees, they are trying to bait you and get someone to taint the investigation so there is no crediblity and they would try to get certain information droped from case or not be alowed to use it in court. Every little action even seemingly innocent or harmless, effects the other. They are trying to stack the chips in their favor to protect the big baby and make it all go away. I sure all you guys have been told not to share any infornmation about the investigation, certainly not on a web blog. It seem annonymous but they can subpeoni the e-mails to see who wrote what and nail you. Any and all comments can be traced. I am assuming, that the city is smart enough to do that. The decisions will made by Roger will hopefull be sound, though a little rusty and unaware of all sides of what has ocurred since his departure. I hope he is made aware and takes an honest look at this. Quigley is only filling in temporarily, whom else coud, Elliott is gone. Quigley will be watching her own steps as she knows that they are, to. she certainly to try to recruit little, or large, elves to work on the employees for her. She will not stop at anything, she is very calculating and would even trick you into doing or saying something that could advance her, especially by comparison when she makes everyone appear as unintellegent subservents. The stupid ones are the ones that actually work for her, so obvious you have no minds of your own. If she does not get the manipulation she needs and put the players where she wants, she will completly stress out and start making hot headed decisions. As we all know, the redder her face, the quicker she'll be replaced. Lets go crimson, candy apple red. We need to see her face light up like a christmas tree.

Timmy tripped over you and Mr. Less while trying to get to the top. Are you ok? (Ruff) Sorry you feel that he didn’t seem to care. (mmmm mmm) Don’t whine, let’s go get a treat? I’ll get a Karmic Cookies, the kind that we love. (ruff) oh, yeah, Timmy! Thanks,I almost forgot. I was worrying about you Las. Don’t worry, I’ll always be your friend. Now here is a cookie, c’mon lets go (Ruff, ruff). Hellooooo, Timmy are you down there?? …**here I am.** (Ruff) **Lassie? Thank goodness you’ve come to help me my faithful companion, I never thought you’d get here.I've been waiting so long** Lassie, I think someone else deserves a Karmic Cookie more than us. Hold on Timmy, I’m throwing you something you will need. We’re going to gather some boards and brush. ***Lassie, what are you doing? come help me out NOW. I need to get to the top!!*** Lassie, don't you worry, come help me place these, carefully, over the hole? (Ruff) Good job! You can’t even tell it was ever there. ***Hey, where did everybody go, it’s so dark and I don't like being alone.*** Timmy? Lassie and I just wanted to make sure you knew to be careful of where you land the next time you step on someone else to get what you want. Now use your Karmic Cookie wisely, and if you are quiet, we will try and bring you another one on Tuesday OK? (Ruff, ruff). Yep Girl, that was way better than a treat. I sure hope Timmy learns his lesson. He sure has a lot of cookies to releive him of his greed. When he does then it will be tome for him to come out. ++++

Karmic Cookie says: Every step is opportunity to choosecan a right turns or a wrong. Stay on your path, and try not to impede, others may stay theirs. Now eat your Karmic Cookie, it must last you a while. Remember, you never really knows who’s been chosen to be out there, looking into our darkness and having been given the decision to leave us with choices, or to just throw us another life altering Karmic Cookie lesson next Tuesday++++

(Ruff, ruff?) Yes Girl, don’t worry, Timmy can still eat his cookie in the dark, all alone. And he can still find more lessons, if he chooses to listen. (Howwwlllllll) you bet’cha Girl, even if your right in the middle of a clever a cover up!!

(Ruff, ruff) Lassies epilogue: Somewhere, we’re all out there, some beneath boards and brush. listen, just listen, you can hear a small “crunch.” Would it be fair to say, that's the way the Karmic Cookie crumbles. (Ruff, ruff)

Let’s all go to the Long Beach Post link here to view a cover up by LBAC

    http://www.lbreport.com/news/apr08/anicont.htm

The City Manager of Long Beach admitted to the press that the shelter did not have a Veterinary Premise Permit. In this same article, Pat West also said that as of 4/7/08 Loren Eslinger is the Veterinarian for the facility. Why is it that Dr. Karen Halligan-SPCA LA Veterinarian applied last week to be the premise Vet for Long Beach Animal Shelter? Let's now look at 2nd District Weekly article. Pat West stated that Dr. Eslinger is the shelter Vet. Where is she? Has anyone seen her at the shelter? That was almost 2 weeks ago. Dr. Halligan (SPCA LA Veterinarian) apparently applied for a premise the same week that the city hired Dr. Eslinger. Who the hell is the Veterinarian at Long Beach and why are we being lied to? This is the real problem. Either Pat West has been "misquoted" in 2 different articles or someone is trying to pull a fast one. It would be easy to find out by calling the Long Beach Shelter and ask to speak to the Veterinarian. If they tell you she is not in, and then ask to leave a voice mail. I bet they will take a written message. A cover up is good for the beach because it hides what is actually underneath it. This cover up is ripped and this makes it easy to see what is really inside.

I am EXTREMELY disgusted to read this article. Another "whoops" moment by an AC staff member causes harm to a poor dog that did NOTHING wrong in his life, besides pleased his owners' wants and needs, in this case, causing him to become aggressive.

Yes, accidents happen, but these people should know better! These are so called "trained professionals". But I do not care who the hell you are!... Each of those individuals allowed that animal to suffer. They are all guilty of the same crime.

    What a way to die!!!

Most citizens think euthanasia is a nice way to "pass"; being painless for the most part, and peaceful, the animal quietly slips away. But at LBAC, nooooo, they choose to torched their animals before they kill them.-- This is not the only horrible situation that has taken place at this facility; however IT IS PROBABLY THE ONLY HORRIFIC SITUATION YOU HAVE HEARD OF!

That's right, just keep washing the blood off your hands. It might have actually seemed to be working there for awhile. Unfortunately for you, I think you missed a spot! Blood stains people!

I am sorry, but I just think it's a bit odd that LBAC, including a couple of its staff members who testified against NA, are now being investigated for.. hmm... what's that?.... ANIMAL CRUELTY! Negligence? Abuse maybe? Putting not only themselves and the animal in danger, but the public as well.

Oh wow! Isn't that what they supposedly went after Alex and Gloria for?

These are prime examples of the types of activities LBAC was trying to sweep under the rug by eliminating Noah's Ark.

Noah's Ark was a threat to LBAC not only because of their adoption stats, but because NA knew what went on behind the scenes at Long Beach Animal Control.

Quigley tried to "do away with" her witnesses. She did not want the truth to slip out. Well, too late now sweetheart! Looks like to poo you were slipping on at the NA facility was your own!

By promoting Quigley, the city of Long Beach is either getting very desperate, or they have lowered their standards of qualification tremendously!

Poster #113, you are just too funny. Yeah, funny thing, unlike LBAC, we actually work to save our animals, so that does in fact require some money. Unlike the small fee it takes to euth a dog. Again, thanks for your concern about our funding ($$$); although, I haven't seen a donation come in from you yet. Must just be a glitch in the system, right?

Hey, at least we are helping these poor creatures and not slamming them up against the wall watching blood gush out of their nose/eyes like some people.

    Silly you!

The history of Noah's Ark was re-written by the Long Beach Press Telegram in a series of cruelly biased articles designed to increase circulation at the expense of fairness. In their quest for more money, the PT sacrificed two dedicated volunteers, Alex and Gloria, on the altar of their money god. It started with the lurid 72 point font sub-headline: "18 Carcasses Found in Freezer" after the raid on the shelter. The gullible reader was appalled by this gruesome finding. Those who took the trouble to check a little further learned that: 5 of the bodies were from a litter of stillborn kittens whose mother had recently been taken in by N/A; there were several Parvo pups whom the volunteers tried unsuccessfully to save; an elderly dog whose time on this earth was over, etc.

State law requires that animals be stored in a freezer prior to cremation. Noah's Ark used a cremation service to properly dispose of the dead animals.

The above is only one of many instances where an unwary reader can be duped into thinking an innocent person is guilty. The Press Telegram continued its series of articles, all designed to discredit Noah's Ark.

No one from Noah's Ark was ever accused of tormenting and killing an animal. Not once, not ever. The fleas, matted fur and earmites pale in comparison to the brutality of the actions of Long Beach Animal Control.

Let's not forget about the grossly overgrown toenails found on one Noah's Ark dog. Here is the real story on that one. Noah's Ark rescued a feisty little dog who was very difficult to handle. The dog was filthy, had heavily matted fur and nails so long that they curved around. Rather than subject a highly distressed dog to a bath, shaving and clipping all at the same time, they bathed the dog first and tried to help the dog overcome his fear. The plan was to next shave the mats off the dog and later have the nails trimmed. They were never able to accomplish the last two tasks, because shortly after the dog was brought to Noah's Ark, the shelter was raided by Quigley & Co. Should people really go to prison for that?

There have been numerous posts about Noah's Ark supporters characterizing us as lunatics, fanatics, psychos, etc.

Here is a profile of some of the nut case volunteers: A public school teacher, an accountant, a president of an investment company, a federal attorney, an Iraq war veteran, a writer, students.

Why were the defendants found guilty? Remember please they were found not guilty on most of the charges. A jury is only as good as the evidence they are allowed to hear. Exculpatory evidence was suppressed by Judge Rodriguez. It is in the court transcript.

I don't expect the "rah rahs" of this world to be able to understand that there is a very different side to the story of Noah's Ark than the one reported in the PT , but hopefully other people will take a fresh look at what really happened.

Are innocent people ever found guilty? The answer is a resounding yes. Check out The Innocence Project, study the McMartin Pre-School Case, read The Innocent Man, and perhaps you will see another side of the "justice" system.

To Noah's Ark Supporter-- just because someone has an elite title or position does not mean they can not be irrational or wrong! I know people who work at the LB facility and it wasn't just one dog that was matted, dirty and with long nails. It was the majority of them. Curled nails can cause the nail to break back into the skin (thus causing pain) and can cause infection. The parvo puppies were unsuccessfully treated by volunteers? How about a veterinarian? Parvo cases rarely survive without hospitalization and aggressive treatment. No instead Noah's Ark allowed them to die a agonizing and torturous death. Parvo is an intestinal virus that cause watery, bloody diarrhea (thus severe intestinal cramping), fever, vomiting, anorexia, and lethargy. That is a horrible way to die. They should have been euthanized if they couldn't afford hospitalization instead of dying like that. But I also know for a fact that the conditions in that place were deplorable. Filthy drinking water, feces and urine riddled the place, and so much more. If the public were allowed to see the pictures, I think most people would NOT agree with you! Remember, the whole reason the investigation started was because of the awful stench coming from the place. The LB police called animal control to investigate. If they could smell it outside, just imagine the smell and conditions inside!

Perhaps I should have been clearer about the Parvo pups. I did not mean to imply that the only treatment they had was from volunteers. The Noah's Ark animals were seen regularly by a veterinarian. His name is Dr. Saleh.

Since you seem to be familiar with the case, perhaps you could explain why in Wesley Moore's own words that 3 dogs "died on their own" while in the care of Long Beach Animal Control. They died weeks after they were seized. What happened to them?

Many of the dogs at Noah's Ark were indeed in poor health. Alex took in the dogs and cats that no one-including Long Beach Animal Control--would save. Recovery is a slow process with many ailments, and one could expect to see animals in perfect health. When you go to a nursing home, what do you see? Healthy, robust people? No, sick people. It was the same at Noah's Ark.

At the trial, the prosecution's own witness, Glen (I don't recall his last name) testified he brought dogs with mange to Noah's Ark. This condition can also take a long time to cure, depending on the type of mange.

I am aware of the police report concerning the smell. The officer went to investigate a silent alarm which was activated in a vacant building. The rest has been widely reported and I won't re-hash it here. One has to wonder though, why there were no complaints about the odor from any neighbors in the heavily populated area where Noah's Ark was located. One also has to wonder why the smell was not a factor 10 days prior to the raid when animal control officers visited the facility and did not indicate to the volunteers that there were any problems.

One of the volunteers, the teacher, would bring her 8 year old daughter to the shelter from time to time. She stated in court under oath that she would not sujbect her daughter to unsanitary or unhealthy conditions. I believe her.

I stand firm in my belief that the recent acts of cruelty and neglect at LBAC grossly exceed anything that a reasonable person could attribute to Noah's Ark

The investigator will hear the lies and the DW will make them public. Lets see if the investigator will post the findings here or will they give it to the city where it will be buried.
  • why not · 1 year ago

Wiggly Quigley loves to preen and posture for the Press Telegram and the LB Post. Why won't she talk to The District Weekly? Afraid to answer the tough questions? C'mon, Quigley, show some spirit here! Where are your balls?

For 187: Why wouldn't she? Again, is she afraid of the hard questions? Afraid she might slip up and actually tell the truth for a change?

Your spelling is improving. Now learn that interrogatives are followed by question marks. We'll take this a step at a time.

Just stop it all now it is an embarrassment to the buisness.

If only your time was spent working while being paid to do so none of this would be happening. Instead you choose do do people like this. You all have obviosuly spend so much time not working and drumming things up not handleing business and it's all everyone elses fault. I have spent more time trying to get these nasty things removed that have individuals names on it because it's disgusting. The City is only interested in the "alleged" brutality and negelct not this gossip and personal hatred you have for each other.
Please stop all of it and wait for what ever it is you are waiting for. In the end I hope you get nothing because you all don't deserve it.

Don't play down your postings. You must of been drunk everytime because none of it makes sense. Some examples are:

I have not posted one name also

First I was drunk. I said I have not targeted or said anything about anyone specific and do not put anything down that I have heard about.

my real name is tonya now what do you have to say

    ps I am ron

Christine what hole have you been hiding in?

    I don't target anyone

I have a major problem with that should shut up because there is so much dirt on them it is not funny and if need I will pull everything out AND BURY THEM.
First if you are talking to me bite me was not me. I am sitting back and watching and waiting you all play nice.

I will stay out and not bend like steel. Shaking things up is not hard with this crew you are all at each others throats and don't know who is saying what.

P.S. I noticed you said I have not posted on this site so you have posted on others then....

what are you put on there if you are not on leave?

Now you are calling names. I am a coward who starts something and the goes in hiding? I think that the rest of the click need to jump off the ship also with the rest.

    I am not saving posts

I have a file of a couple of people that are using this as a personal attack on people that have nothing to do with this

I will stay out and not bend like steel.

The City is only interested in the "alleged" brutality and negelct not this gossip and personal hatred you have for each other.

I have stopped as I stated

Did you see this joke!!! You know Quigley called him and asked him to write this in the Press Telegram letters to the Editor. Always has to lie to get good publicity. Everyone who knows the truth (that's you LBAC) needs to write this guy and tell him the truth. She killed these cats. The owners got 3 cats back to keep them quiet about the 70 she illegally killed. Look at the previous posts. Why isn't this being investigated. Maybe it is, that's why she called him now, after all these months, to ask for a media-whore favor. Well it won't work, we are going to put the truth out and let them request the info themselves. Writing on the records now and lying and falsifying the records is a crime, FYI, but still not beneath you to try (sorry, now you'll have to run back and erase what you illegally wrote) PS. don't use white out, it's obvious

So check this out then go and answer him back in the PT, always printing fluff bull s**t. Hey DW, why don 't you put the real story out. I bet initial source knows a lot, as do others. Hayden Violators!!!!!

    "Team effort

As an employee of Mental Health America of Long Beach, whose mission is to improve the quality of life of mentally ill residents in Long Beach, it gives me great motivation just knowing that other agencies in our community are willing to help us.

One of our council members notified our office that a member of our community needed our services. Part of their issue included the care of about 70 cats, which they were housing in their two-bedroom apartment. The Long Beach Animal Control Center found new homes for the animals and instructed the original owners in proper cat care.

As a result, a limited number of cats were reunited with their original owners. Kudos to Lt. Michelle Quigley and her assistant, Susana Delima, who were instrumental in finding a win/win solution.

So are the employees that were hired to do breeding enforcement now her personal assistants???? Long Beach dollars wasted again, get rid of that program for crying out loud, they clearly are using all the resources for other things. Theft of city money....again.
