The District Weekly: BICYCLE BULLY-VARD

  • Matrixism · 1 year ago
There should be a lot more bicycle boulevards not just for the cyclists but for the pedestrians as well. It just make for a more livable city. Not to mention that well planned bike boulevards probably add to property values.

If they are so interested in preserving their "historic district" then perhaps we should only allow bikes (invented a good 40 years before the car) and horse-drawn buggies? Seems like a plan to me. Bikes don't poop.

well put. why is it when you try to do something good for the environment and your health you get shit on? bike commuters should be given praise, instead of hell for taking cars off the road.

Where is this bike boulevard going to be again? I can't wait to come down from DC and ride my noisy bike up and down it and close-line the innocent. Hell, I may steel a bike, joy ride it, then leave it burning on the side of said boulevard. Maybe there is an overpass, that my bikes and I could live under while I plot my next evil plan.

I'm sure bicyclists (including Cycle Jerk) already know the LA County Bicycle Coalition:

noisy. that would be funny.. but really it's not. i live on a fairly busy street in a historic district here in orange. what i would give to have my street converted to a bike boulevard.

I am a First St resident and I think this is an awsome idea! Making Long Beach bike friendly is not only good for the environment but it's also smart economically. Taking cars off the road should ALWAYS be praised!

This makes no sense to me. Traffic calming AND bike boulevards only increase property values, right? And since when are bicycle riders considered the "bad element?" Did they think it was for "bikers" a la the Hell's Angels or something?

I really hope that the city continues with this idea but not just on First Street. There should be bike-friendly lanes going East-West AND North-South every few blocks or so. Maybe First Street, Fourth Street, Tenth Street, etc.

Nice job making the residents look like such ridiculous idiots. I laughed. Unfortunately it's all too true...people just don't know what they want. Good luck with the fight for First Street, and thanks for being an inspiration to others. I don't own a bike yet, but you make me want to.
