The District Weekly: “SHAME ON YOU, CALIFORNIA”

Shame indeed. California is a disgrace, and the Supreme Court showed no regard for the rule of law, deferring instead to mob rule. At this point, the rights of al minorities are at risk.

No word on the actual rally at Bixby park? I thought it was tremendous!
Still, nice article Theo. The people gotta organize, and work very hard for change, but this is the one issue that should unite all ethnicities, and as we saw the other night, it does and is the civil rights issue of our day!

Hi, Wanderlust. I, too, thought the rally was amazing. It was really encouraging to see so many folks of all ages out there. I felt like what Kimberlee Woods said--during the rally at Bixby Park--really summed up a lot of what I heard out there last night. Thanks for reading.

It's time to find a way to take this to the US Supreme Court level. Isn't there some way the gay community and its supporters can sue the state of California for this ruling?

Yeah, lets vote again. This time without the draw of Obama to lure record Dem turnout. Obama had decided the Pres election early as well, which left thousands of Pubs at home. Next time will be an even larger margin. Funny thing is NOTHING changed in terms of "rights" for gay couples in California over the last 3-4 years. All they are doing is trying to change the definition of marriage. State law already provides them ALL the state granted rights, priveleges, and responsibilities granted by the State of California. You can't legislate acceptance by changing the definition of a thousands of years old social institution. Most of us voted for gay rights...assuring civil unions have the same rights as married couples...but we will not vote to change the definition of marriage. This is NOT about rights and you know it!

Maybe I am missing something, but do you really want to get married? Ask anyone that has been married -- Don't do it!!!!!

Honestly, it's not a matter if we want to get married or not...it's about HAVING the ability to be treated equally under the law. For six months now, we've been trying to rally up the community regarding this right. We seriously need to think about what is happening here. Proposition 8, and the upholding of the California Supreme Court has opened a new door for discrimination against any minority group.

It's downright scary to see such an item on the ballot, let alone it actually pass, only to be upheld by the courts. If you want to get angry and upset, you should really start looking in a mirror, because each and everyone of us is responsible for the passage of that piece of crap amendment to our constitution.

In two years time, refresh your memories and take a look...a good look at those couples that were able to get married. Look at their children, and see that not a damn thing changed. It wasn't influenced at schools like the religious finatics claimed. It didn't revoke any churches tax exempt status. Not a blookin' thing changed at all. So why of all things was this considered a threat? We just want the same rights as anyone else. We're not asking for preferential treatment...that's ludicrous! I for one did not choose to be gay, but I DID MAKE A CONSCIOUS decision to accept myself after years of tormenting doubt and self-loathing. I chose to be truthful to my parents, family, and friends so they could know the real me. For those of you out there who swing your religion on the tips of your fingers at any of us...let the higher being worry about judgement...it's none of your damned business whatsoever!
